New Business:
1. Introduction
The Traffic Committee and a resident discussed issues around Old White Plains Road
and the issues around installing crosswalks.
Chair Block introduced the committee members and staff to the residents.
2. Murray Avenue -Various Improvements
Chair Block reviewed the topic for improvements to Murray Avenue. Consideration
was provided by the Engineering and Police Departments.
Bump Out on Forest and Murray-The Traffic Committee commented that it is good
for pedestrians but a review needs to be completed for truck turns. It was commented
that the County is willing to listen to the recommendations from the Traffic Committee;
approval of temporary poles are needed. The Traffic Committee approved the request
subject to County approval.
Murray and Colonial Crossing Guard - Mr. Smeets requested a crossing guard during
the evening and the installation of RFB flashing signs. Mr. Wasp discussed the costs
with the Traffic Committee. Mr. Smeets discussed how other municipalities installed
lights to light up the crosswalk. The Traffic Committee agreed that a RFB should be
installed in the area. They will need County and Town approval before the sign is
installed.

Wasp discussed why the request was warranted due to the length of the road. Chair
Block said she is concerned about the amount of delineators around Town. The
Traffic Committee suggested asking for Town and County approval.
Maple Hill Road -School Zone Signage- Mr. Wasp said there is a maximum school
zone area, which the Town has already exceeded. The Town could not elongate the
school zone further but markers could be installed. Mr. Smeets asked for signage
north of Forest and Murray. Mr. Wasp suggested using advanced warning zone sign
be installed on Murray southbound lane.
Hillside Road -The Traffic Committee did not approve the yield to pedestrian sign
because it does not follow MUTCD guide lines.
Lane Stripping South of Edgewood - No parking on Murray Avenue and the
installation of a stop sign at Maple Hill Drive were discussed. The request was already
submitted the to County. Ms. Katz commented that it is a wide street which causes
people to speed. Chair Block would like to see more speed data before a
recommendation is made.
3. Hillside Road and Murray Avenue
Crosswalk across Murray and Hillside-The request was denied as it is considered
too dangerous.
4. North Chatsworth Avenue and Edgewood Avenue
Mr. Wasp commented that the new crosswalk was installed in 2024. After the
installation was complete another request was received. A speed hump was
requested, but it does not meet the requirement. RFBs and tubular markers are
suggested for the crosswalk for drivers to see it. Ms. Katz and Mr. Wasp discussed
reflective paint. Lt. Hollywood said there are no accidents reports and did not see any
issues, but he does believe there are crosswalk issues. Chair Block said she is
concerned the RFBs will congest the area. Mr. Wasp said that they shouldn't be
installed on certain roads like Weaver Street. They then discussed the possibility of
light pollution in front of people's homes. The Traffic committee agreed to install the
RFBs in the area.
5. Adjournment
Chair Block ended the meeting at 7:44pm.
