TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
January 14, 2025

CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting held at the Senior Center; 1288 Boston Post Road was called to order at
7:00 P.M. by Chairman Druker.
ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES:
The Meeting Minutes of December 10, 2024, were reviewed but acceptance was
deferred until the February meeting due to the lack of a quorum at that time.
SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE:
Ms. Fisher reported the following:
1. Many of our winter session programs have begun.
2. We hosted a Family Bingo Night on Friday, February 10th, with 50 participants
enrolled.
3. The winter session of Swim Lessons began on January 4th and has a current
enrollment of 108.
4. Session 3 of Skating School began on January 4th and has a current enrollment
of 414.
5. We currently have 92 enrolled in our winter session of Recreation House Hockey.
6. Enclosed for your review is the December 2024 Hommocks Park Ice Rink Daily
Visit Report. The ice rink was very busy during the holiday season. General
admissions totaled $58,840 between the dates of Friday, December 21st through
Monday, January 1st.
7. Enclosed are photos of Breakfast with Santa held on December 14th and photos
from the Tree and Menorah Lighting events.
8. We are working on the spring/summer brochure, which we will self-publish again
this season. We hope to have the brochure available by the end of February.
9. Enclosed is a copy of the January Newsletter.
10. The Hommocks Pool is scheduled to close on Monday, February 3rd for locker
room renovations. Approximately 600 members holding pool permits will be
provided with a pro-rated refund for their membership. This is approximately
$117,000 in refunds. The pool closure will also impact the Volleyball program
which will need to provide pro-rated refunds totaling $2,100.
11. The Town has entered into an agreement with Zencity. Zencity will be utilized to
help conduct the pool survey.

SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE CONTINUED:
12. The bathrooms at the Senior Center have been updated. New flooring has been
installed, and both rooms have been given a fresh coat of paint.
13. The Town received approval from NYSERDA to proceed with putting the HVAC
renovations the Senior Center back out to bid. A second Request for Proposal
has gone back out to bid. The prior bids were rejected in 2024 due to their high
estimates.
14. The concession agreement with Strada Foods for the operation of the
concession stand at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink expires in February. A
recommendation has been made to the Town Board to renew their agreement for
an additional year as provided for in the Agreement.
MEMORIAL PARK SHADE UPDATE:
The Request for Proposals for Shade Evaluation and Design was extended to January
8th. Only one proposal was submitted, which is being reviewed by the Town Engineer,
Robert Wasp.
Chairman Druker has expressed his frustration with this project and the lack of progress
with obtaining additional shade at the park for this coming season.
HOMMOCKS OUTDOOR POOL COMPLEX UPDATE:
Currently, there are no new updates to report.
HOMMOCKS FIELDS:
Landtek has not been out to dig the test pits for the soil analysis. Their new tentative
date for this work is the week of January 20th. The 2025 Maintenance Plan
recommended by Landtek was enclosed for review. This will have a more aggressive
turf maintenance program due to future renovations being held off for another year or
more. Funds for this work have been included in the 2025 budget.
HOMMOCKS LOCKER ROOM RENOVATONS:
The Recreation Commission expressed concern with the actual time frame of the pool
locker room renovations and the lack of communication provided by the School Board.
Jeff King, Town Board Liaison, is going to speak to Ms. Jaine Elkind-Eney, Town
Supervisor regarding the pool renovations and a more accurate completion date of this
project. Ms. Sigel has suggested that a Commission member should attend the School
Board meetings to keep up to date with the renovations.
2025 TEEN TRAVEL CAMP FEES:
Vicky Laoutaris, Assistant Superintendent presented the 2025 Teen Travel Camp fees to
the Commission. Last year, there were 45 participants per session. The camp format will
remain the same this year. If a family registers for both sessions, they will receive a
discount.
On a motion by, Commissioner Welsh, seconded by, Chairman Druker, the following fees,
were unanimously approved.
Teen Travel Camp – 2 weeks Resident: $1,400
Nonresident: $1,600

TOWN BOARD LIAISON UPDATE:
Mr. Jeffrey King discussed the 2025 budget for the Town of Mamaroneck. The budget
was difficult this year with many Capital Projects, and increased costs for Health
Benefits, and the Westchester County Joint Water Works Facility.
The Town Board has not received the independent field report on the Hommocks
Fields. The Town Board is looking into different options, including selling or leasing the
fields.
The Town Board has discussed creating a Citizen Financial Advisory Board in assisting
with financial decisions for the Town.
SUB-COMMITTEE UPDATE:
Currently, there are no new updates to report from the Sub-Committee.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by
Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Sigel, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00
P.M.
