HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025_12_09 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES December 9, 2025 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Graham Gutter Darren Moss Joyce Callahan Susan Sigel ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Vicky Laoutaris, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation Toni Barnes, Commission Secretary EXCUSED: Jeffery King, Town Board Liaison William Paonessa CALL TO ORDER: The meeting held at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink, 140 Hommocks Road, was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Sigel. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Moss, the Meeting Minutes of November 18, 2025, were unanimously approved as amended. Ms. Fisher stated there was a resident in attendance. Mr. Yazdi Kapadia introduced himself and expressed his interest in learning more about the Commission and that he is in process of applying for a Commission seat. Ms. Fisher announced that Commissioner Brian Welsh has resigned from the Recreation Commission. There are two seats currently open on the Recreation Commission. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1 . As of December 3rd, there are 108 youths registered in session 1 of the Recreation House Hockey program. Last year at this time there was an enrollment of 108. 2. Session 2 of Skating School concludes on December 13th with a total enrollment of 325. In 2024, Session 2 had an enrollment of 326. Registration for Session 3 begins on December 9th 3. Many of our fall programs are concluding in the next week or two. Winter session classes will begin in January. We were very happy with our registration numbers this fall. The 2025-year end Revenue and Expense Reports will be provided once the books are officially closed. 4. A copy of the December newsletter was enclosed highlighting our upcoming programs. 5. During the long Thanksgiving weekend, there was a total of 1,217 admissions with revenue totaling $17,055. Last year, there was a total of 1,788 admissions and revenue of $21,030. 6. A copy of the November 2025 Rink General Admission attendance numbers was enclosed. The Town hosted a Breakfast with Santa and a Skate with Santa on Saturday, December 6th. There was a total of 110 attendees. 8. The Winter Celebration was held at the Hommocks Ice Rink on December 4th. A variety of activities were offered. 9. There will be one more event to celebrate Hanukkah. Ms. Laoutaris stated the event will be on Tuesday, the 16th for the Menorah lighting. 10.As of January 1, 2026, the General Admission price for non-residents will increase by $2.00. Advertisement of this planned increase will be made available. DEVELOPMENT: 1. The Carpino-Steffens Fields were fertilized on November 24th. The fields are currently open for school's physical education and recess use, weather permitting. As soon as the final maintenance invoices are received, invoices will be sent out to the Mamaroneck School District, Larchmont Jr. Soccer League, and Larchmont Youth Lacrosse for reimbursement for their share of the field maintenance costs. A new format of billing will be in effect 2026. 2. Due to the favorable weather in November, the courts remained open for most of November. The courts are now closed for the season, and the park building has been winterized. 3. The benches have been installed in the pool locker rooms. Commissioner Sigel expressed concern with the pool locker room areas not being cleaned thoroughly and shared pictures of her concerns. Ms. Fisher asked for the information to be forwarded to her, and she will share these complaints with the school district. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF PROPOSED 2026 TEEN TRAVEL CAMP FEES: Ms. Laoutaris, Assistant Superintendent, reviewed plans for the 2026 Teen Travel Camp. Plans include having two Coach buses to accommodate the need. Registration is set to begin in the third week of January. Commissioner Moss inquired if residents receive priority to attend the camp. Ms. Laoutaris explained that residents have advance priority over non-residents in all the recreation programs. Ms. Fisher stated the proposed fees for the 2026 Teen Travel Camp for residents will increase from $1,400 to $1,475. The fee for non-residents will increase from $1,600 to $1 ,775. Commissioner Callahan made a motion to approve the proposed Teen Travel Camp fees as recommended, seconded by Chairman Druker. All in favor. 2026 RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING DATES: Ms. Fisher presented the proposed 2026 Recreation Commission meeting dates. On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Sigel, the Commission unanimously adopted the following meeting dates for 2026: Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes December 9, 2025 — Page 3 2026 RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING DATES CONTINUED: January 13th February 10th March 10th April 14th May 12th June 9th July 14th August 11th September 8th October 13th November 10th December 8th* CHAIRMAN'S UPDATE: Chairman Druker requested that Council Member King be reminded to investigate the $1 ,000,000 pool roof payment with the school district. Ms. Fisher will follow up with Commissioner King. RESOLUTIONS: Chairman Druker proposed the following resolutions: RESOLUTION At the meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission on December 10, 2025, the following resolution was proposed and approved by the Recreation Commission. Resolved: WHEREAS the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commissioner resolves to install Drain Talent with hybrid turf for both Hommocks Athletic Fields. Seconded by Commissioner Moss. All in favor. Chairman Druker suggested that Commissioner Moss propose a resolution regarding offering Live Barn streaming services at the Hommocks Ice Rink. RESOLUTION At the meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission on December 10, 2025, the following resolution was proposed and approved by the Recreation Commission. Resolved: WHEREAS the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission resolves to request that the Town Board look further into Live Barn or a similar streaming service to broadcast events from the rink. Seconded by Commissioner Gutter. Ms. Fisher will prepare these Resolutions and submit to the Town Administrator. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Gutter, the meeting was adjourned at 7:54 P.M.
