The Traffic Committee will convene in the Court Room located on the second floor at
the Town Center at 7:00 pm.
Business Meeting:
1. Call to Order and Introduction
Chair Block started the meeting at 7:00pm and introduced the staff.
2. Burton Road - Moving Current Signage
Frank Marcella addressed the Traffic Committee. A new driveway was developed at 4
Burton Road and an issue has come up with a sign. They would like to move the sign
to the other side of the new driveway. The Traffic Committee questioned if the sign
should be up at all. The Traffic Committee, Mr. Marcella, and Mr. Wasp discussed the
history of the sign. Sight distance issues were also brought up.
The Traffic Committee agreed that the sign should be moved to the other side of the
new driveway. The distance ordinance in Town Code will need to be updated. Mr.
Wasp described the code in the area of Burton Road and Palmer Avenue. The code
would need to be amended to allow for the sign to be moved. No parking from Palmer
Avenue to 4 Burton Road should be added to the Town Code.
3. Rockingstone Avenue - Request for Removal of Sign
Chair Block described the history of the issue. The Traffic Committee agreed that the
sign should not be removed. Ms. Katz stated she believes the signs are are on the
wrong side of the roads, which Mr. Wasp agreed with.
4. Discussion - Town Speed Limit
Chair Block reviewed which local villages have lowered the speed limit to 25mphs.
Cities and Villages are able to make the change automatically, but Towns are not.
Towns must complete a traffic study to determine if 25mph is warranted. All County
and State roads would be exempt from the lowering of the speed limit, which means
Weaver Street and Murray Avenue would not have their speed limit lowered. Mr.
Wasp described the steps that would come after if the Traffic Committee decided to

lower the speed limit. He then reviewed which streets are already 25mph or lower.
Chair Block brought up signage and changing drivers' behavior. Ms. Katz commented
it may lead to the Police Department issuing tickets at a lower speed limit. The Traffic
Committee would like to have Police input before making any recommendation.
Michael Smeats commented that the Village of Larchmont hasn't lowered the speed
limit yet, but he believes they will be lowering the speed limit soon. Road design and
school zones could be modified. Mr. Smeats discussed speed statistics with Chair
Block and Ms. Katz. He brought up that Village of Mamaroneck lowered the speed
limit on Mamaroneck because of the accident last summer and that they had already
lowered the speed limit to 25mph. Ms. Odierna would like to contact other
municipalities that have lowered the speed limit, to check if safety has improved.
