Business Agenda:
1. Call to Order
The Traffic Committee began at 7:05pm. Chair Block introduced the committee
members and staff.
2. Weaver Street and Ferndale Place
The resident who submitted the review form addressed the Traffic Committee. He
stated that visibility is an issue when making a left hand turn from Ferndale Place onto
Weaver Street. Mr. Wasp agreed that visibility is limited since the curve is not to the
current standard. The Engineering Department made a referral to Code Enforcement
to assess if any landscaping could improve visibility. Mr. Wasp said an intersection
warning sign could improve the safety of the area, but it would need to be approved
by the NYSDOT. The Traffic Committee recommended asking the NYSDOT to install
the sign.
3. Rockland Avenue and Valley Stream Road East
The resident was not in attendance at the meeting. The Traffic Committee agreed that
the area does not warrant "Stop" signs. Lt. Hollywood has an enforcement plan in
place, which started yesterday to deter speeding.
4. Murray Avenue, Echo Lane and Edgewood Avenue Intersection
Brian Lobel addressed the Traffic Committee. A review of past accidents in the area
was done by the resident, Lt. Hollywood, and the Traffic Committee. Mr. Lobel
discussed the limited visibility of the roads. Chair Block asked about the "Stop" signs
on Murry; Mr. Wasp confirmed there are signs on the roads that go onto Murray
Avenue, which is the heavier traveled road. Mr. Lobel reviewed the traffic patterns that
he perceived. Mr. Wrzesniewsky said there is a visibility issue due to foliage and
suggested a possible intersection sign and reflective paint for crosswalks.
An installation of a stop sign was discussed. Chair Block stated that a five way stop
would be chaotic. Mr. Wasp said a formal study of the area would need to be

completed, but adjusting the crosswalks on Murray Avenue could be discussed with
the County. Visibility issues were referred to Code Enforcement. Florescent paint and
signage may be added to crosswalks after County approval. Ms. Picciottosuggested
a traffic study of the area for possible bottlenecking. She stated she is concerned that
putting up bumping could cause a back up.
5. Safe Routes to School Items
A review was done of the Safe Routes to School items. Signage will be place at the
Village Square Shopping Center, and the State will include the Boston Post Road
area in their study.
Ms. Picciotto brought up the wall between the shopping center and the diner. She
proposed asking the owners to make the wall curved so motorists can see
pedestrians better. Safe Routes to School is proposing lowering the speed limit to
20mph. Hommocks Middle School will need to write a letter of support for lowering the
speed limit.
6. Added Item - Harrison Drive
The Traffic Committee discussed the Harrison Drive item again. The Larchmont side
of Harrison Drive was recently lowered. Traffic Committee agreed to have the item go
before the Town Board.
