Delohery, Secretary to Town Administrator Robert P. Wasp, Town Engineer The Traffic Committee will convene in the Senior Center at 7:00pm Business Agenda: 1. Call to Order The Traffic Committee began at 7:05pm. Chair Block introduced the committee members and staff. 2. Weaver Street and Ferndale Place The resident who submitted the review form addressed the Traffic Committee. He stated that visibility is an issue when making a left hand turn from Ferndale Place onto Weaver Street. Mr. Wasp agreed that visibility is limited since the curve is not to the current standard. The Engineering Department made a referral to Code Enforcement to assess if any landscaping could improve visibility. Mr. Wasp said an intersection warning sign could improve the safety of the area, but it would need to be approved by the NYSDOT. The Traffic Committee recommended asking the NYSDOT to install the sign. 3. Rockland Avenue and Valley Stream Road East The resident was not in attendance at the meeting. The Traffic Committee agreed that the area does not warrant "Stop" signs. Lt. Hollywood has an enforcement plan in place, which started yesterday to deter speeding. 4. Murray Avenue, Echo Lane and Edgewood Avenue Intersection Brian Lobel addressed the Traffic Committee. A review of past accidents in the area was done by the resident, Lt. Hollywood, and the Traffic Committee. Mr. Lobel discussed the limited visibility of the roads. Chair Block asked about the "Stop" signs on Murry; Mr. Wasp confirmed there are signs on the roads that go onto Murray Avenue, which is the heavier traveled road. Mr. Lobel reviewed the traffic patterns that he perceived. Mr. Wrzesniewsky said there is a visibility issue due to foliage and suggested a possible intersection sign and reflective paint for crosswalks. An installation of a stop sign was discussed. Chair Block stated that a five way stop would be chaotic. Mr. Wasp said a formal study of the area would need to be Page 1 of 2 Traffic Committee January 22, 2025 completed, but adjusting the crosswalks on Murray Avenue could be discussed with the County. Visibility issues were referred to Code Enforcement. Florescent paint and signage may be added to crosswalks after County approval. Ms. Picciottosuggested a traffic study of the area for possible bottlenecking. She stated she is concerned that putting up bumping could cause a back up. 5. Safe Routes to School Items A review was done of the Safe Routes to School items. Signage will be place at the Village Square Shopping Center, and the State will include the Boston Post Road area in their study. Ms. Picciotto brought up the wall between the shopping center and the diner. She proposed asking the owners to make the wall curved so motorists can see pedestrians better. Safe Routes to School is proposing lowering the speed limit to 20mph. Hommocks Middle School will need to write a letter of support for lowering the speed limit. 6. Added Item - Harrison Drive The Traffic Committee discussed the Harrison Drive item again. The Larchmont side of Harrison Drive was recently lowered. Traffic Committee agreed to have the item go before the Town Board. 7. Adjournment The meeting ended at 7:55pm. Reports of Minutes: 1. December 2024 This item was not discussed. Page 2 of 2
