Chair Block and Ms. Picciotto discussed the amount of foliage on Garit Lane. Ms. Katz also said that other residents in the area have approached her about a sidewalk installation. A "No parking here to corner" sign and cleaning out foliage was recommended by the Traffic Committee. 3. Discussed Second - Town Wide Speed Limit Chair Block reviewed the topic with the committee and which municipalities have lowered their speed limit. Lt. Hollywood reviewed his findings, which were inconclusive, on the municipalities who lowered their speed limit and if there were less accidents after the speed limit was lowered. The primary cause of accidents County wide is distracted driving. Ms. Katz commented the Town needs mass community buy-in to make drivers safer in the community. The Town only has so much money to spend on enforcement. The Traffic Committee and Lt. Hollywood discussed lowering speed limits in school areas, and which roads would be exempt. Ms. Katz and Mr. Wasp reviewed speed limit ordinances. Chair Block concluded that speed really isn't a major factor in accidents. Councilman King said that lower speed limits around schools is a good idea and should be tied into the back to school season. Mr. Wasp and Councilman King discussed human factors of speeding. Page 1 of 2 Traffic Committee June 16, 2025 A discussion was had about the amount of people who are actually asking for the lowering of the Town wide speed limit. It was agreed that a very small amount of residents have asked for the Town to lower the speed limit and the item should be put off until there is further demand. The Traffic Committee reviewed different measures of traffic calming. They then agreed not to meet in the summer. Councilman King and Mr. Wasp discussed traffic calming ideas for New Jefferson and N. Chatsworth. Mr. Wasp said the MUTCD came out with new guidelines around flashing lights which makes New Jefferson a grey area on the installation of the flashing lights. Councilman King is concerned about the area as he has been almost hit on several occasions. Mr. Wasp will reach out to get a second opinion on the area to make sure the Town has the best options available. Ms. Katz and Mr. Wasp discussed the Myrtle Blvd traffic light. The meeting was ended at 7:40pm 4. Misc. Councilman King discussed an issue that is on his street. Several drivers have been speeding and two accidents have occurred. Reports of Minutes: 1.
