HomeMy WebLinkAbout1922_05_26 Town Board Minutes Meeting of the Town Board TOWN OF MAMARONECK, held, May 26th, 1922. The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Burton at 10.20 P.M. PRESENT: Supervisor Burton, Justices Boyd, Collins, Dudley and Shafer, Town Clerk Sherman. The minutes of the meetings of May 1st, 3rd and 17th, 1922, were read and upon motion approved. The Supervisor reported the receipt of a communication from Mrs. Margaret A. McCabe in relation to the duplicate payment of taxes, whereupon the following resolution was offered by Justice Collins and seconded by Justice Boyd: WHEREAS, on the 30th day of April, 1921, Mrs. Margaret McCabe did pay State, County and Town tax levied against property designated on the assessment roll as Section 9, Block 39, Lot 10, which tax was imposed on an assessed valuation of $6,000 and amounted to the sum of $40.57 said sum being; correct and entered as receipts for taxes on the Receivers cash book, page 31 under date of April 30, 1921, and WHEREAS, on the 18th day of May, 1921, Mrs. Margaret (Mrs. John W. McCabe) not the Mrs. Margaret McCabe heretofore mentioned, app- eared at the tax office request tax bill for State, County and Town taxes for 1921, levied against property designated on the assessment roll as Section 6, Block 65 Lot 37, whereupon in error Mrs. J. W. McCabe was presented with tax bill affecting proper erty designated as Section 9, Block 39, Lot 10, and upon receiving said bill amount- ing to $40.57 with penalty added of 82 cts making a total of $41.39 which said account she also paid and is duly entered and acc- ounted for on May 18th, 1921, on page 68 of the Receivers cash book, and WHEREAS, it is evident that a duplicate pay- ment has been made on property designated as Section 9, Blocks 39, Lot 10, therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Supervisor be and hereby - is authorized and empowered to refund to Mrs. Margaret A. McCabe the amount heretofore set forth, ie; $41.39 upon the presentation of a proper claim therefor and be it further RESOLVED, that the penalty be waived on said tax bill to be presented for property des- ignated as Section 6 Block 65, Lot 37, from the 18th day of May, 1921, if tax be paid forthwith. The question being taken upon the foregoing resolution, same was upon ROLL CALL, unanimously adopted. Justice Dudley reported that the Commanders of the American Legion Posts in the Town of Mamaroneck had made app- lication for rent for their headquarters as provided by Section 137 of the Town Law, whereupon the following resolution was offered by Justice Dudley and seconded by Justice Shafer: BE IT RESOLVED, that there be levied and assessed against the taxable prop- erty of the Town of Mamaroneck the sum of $200. to assist in defraying the rental of rooms for the holding of meetings of the Larchmont and Mam- aroneck posts of the American Legion under the provisions of Section 137 of the Town Law and be it further RESOLVED, that the Supervisor be and he hereby, is authorized and empowered to pay to the Commander of each such post the sum of $100. upon the presen- tation of a verified claim therefore. The question being taken upon the foregoing resolution, same was upon ROLL CALL, unanimously adopted. Upon motion, the meeting adjourned at 11.40 P.M. Frederick M. Sherman Town Clerk.
