HomeMy WebLinkAbout1918_07_05 Town Board Minutes Minutes of the Joint Town Board, Town of Mamaroneck, held July 5th, 1918 at 10 P.M. Supervisor George T. Burton called the meeting to order . The Clerk reported the following present: Supervisor Burton , Justices Collins, Boyd, Shafer and Dudley, Commissioner of Highways Hickey, John. C . Fairchild , Town Clerk and Ralph A. Gamble, Counsel. The minutes of the meetings held May 2nd, May 14th , May 28th, June 3rd, June 6th, June 10th and June 25th were all read and approved . Mr. Hickey, Superintendent of Highways, presented a re- port certifying that Michael Decicco had completed the Chestnut Avenue sidewalk and that there was a balance of $543. due him there- on. The same was ordered spread upon the minutes and placed an file and is as follows : June 29th, 1918 . "Hon . George W. Burton Supervisor, Town of Mamaroneck, Mamaroneck, New York, Dear Sir: - I hereby certify that Michael Decicco has completed the sidewalk contract on Chestnut Avenue, Town of Mamaroneck, and that he is entitled to final payment on 2980 square feet (a) 35¢, as per estimate, $1,043 . $1,043 . Less, heretofore received on account, 500. Balance due him, $543 . Respectfully yours , John Hickey, Town Superintendent of Highways." The following resolution was offered by Justice Shafer and seconded by Justice Dudley: RESOLVED that upon the reccomendation of Superintendent of Highways Hickey, the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized to pay Michael Decicco the sum $543.00 being the balance due him upon the completion of the Chestnut Avenue Sidewalk contract . A vote being, taken, the same was unanimously adopted . Superintendent Hickey submitted his report for work done upon the Highways for the month of June which was ordered. Spread upon the minutes and placed on file and is as follows : "July 5th, 1918. "Hon . Town Board of Mamaroneck, Mamaroneck, New York. Gentlemen:- I hereby report the following work on Highways since the last regular joint meeting, repaired Fenimore Road , old White Plains Road, Weaver Street , consisting of tarvia B 3/4 and 1/4 inch stone. Cleaned gutter and graded all round Lakeside Drive. Graded and repaired Chestnut Avenue, where M. Decicco completed sidewalk. Cleaned gutter and drain pipes along Edgewood Road, Edgewood Avenue, Judson Street. Cut brush and grass on all highways, repaired watering trough at the intersection of Weaver Street and Boston Post Road . Respectfully submitted, John Hickey, Supt. of Highways. " Superintendent Hickey reported that he had taken up the matter of the trees which were in the roadway in Larchmont Gardens and would make a report there on a later date . The Superintendent again brought to the attention of the Board the fact that the repairs on the Bostcn Post Road had not been made by Tarren Brothers and the Westchester Electric Railroad Company. Also that there had been certain openings made in the Boston Post Road by the Larchmont Water Company which had not been repaired. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried the matter was referred to counsel. Superintendent Hickey stated that it would be necessary to paint guard rails along certain Town Highways and asked the advice of the Board as to the manner in which he should proceed. It was suggested that bids be procured, but it was the sense of the Board that the Superintendent use his own discretion in the matter. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was RESOLVED , that the matter be left to the discretion of the Superintendent of Highways. The Superintendent brought up the question of ordering repairs to certain sidewalks which had been taken over in Larchmont Gardens, and as to the liability of the Town in case of accidents . Upon motion the matter was referred to counsel. The Board discussed the question of holding a public hearing regarding the sewer proposition . Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was resolved that a public meeting be held on Monday, July 15th, 1918 at 8:15 at the Weaver Street School House for the Public consideration of the sewer matter. The Counsellor was instructed to prepare the necessary notices for properly advertising the meeting. Upon motion duiy made , seconded and carried , the meeting adjourned at 11: 30 P. M. Town Clerk.
