HomeMy WebLinkAbout1918_06_06 Town Board Minutes (2) Regular Meeting of the Town Board, Town of Mamaroneck, held June 6th 1918 at. 8:30 P.M. Supervisor Burton called the meeting to order . Clerk Fairchild reported the following present: Supervisor Burton, Justices Collins, Boyd, Dudley and Shafer, John C . Fairchild, Town Clerk, and Ralph A. Gamble ,Counsel. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was RESOLVED that the reading of the minutes be dispensed with. Mr. Fairchild read a communication from the American Scenic and Historical Preservation Society. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, same was ordered filed. The clerk read a communication from Mrs. Britting. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was RESOLVED that the clerk acknowledge receipt of the communication and refer Mrs. Britting to the proper officials viz: The School Board, District No. 1, Mamaroneck. The clerk read the report of the Receiver of Taxes for the month of May, 1918. Upon motion, duly made, seconded and car- ried, it was RESOLVED that the same be placed on file and also spread upon the minutes and is as follows: -- TOWN OF MAMARONECK T. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the same was ordered placed on file, and spread upon the minutes and is as follows: Office of the Supervisor Tov!rn of Mamaroneck Eight Elm Street George W. Gentlemen:- Permit Me to submit herewith my financial report for the month ending May 31st, 1918, to wit:- Balance on hand on May 1st, 1918 $48,769.88 Deposited by Receiver of Taxes during the month, $41,051.99 Receivied from State Depart- ment of Excise,Volume Tax, 11.25 41,063.34 Total receipts, $89,833.12 Payments:- Audited claims, $3,271.62 County Treasurer Ac/ 27,905.54 Donated to Camp Custer Sons of Veterans for Memo- rial Day Celebration, 50.00 Highway Account,Item #1, 1,892.47 do do #3 18.00 Salary account, 1,524.19 34,661.82 Balance on hand this day, $55,171.30 Respectfully submitted, Supervisor. To the Honorable, The Town Board of the Town of Mamaroneck, Mamaroneck, New York. A committee from the Weaver Street Improvement Association appeared before the Board; were heard and made a request that the Board place a man in the Weaver Street Fire House and install a telephone therein. The following resolution was offered by Justice Dudley, seconded by Justice Coilins: RESOLVED that the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized and directed to procure the services of a man or men to take charge of the Weaver Street Fire House, and fire apparatus and alarm system and be it FURTHER RESOLVED that the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized and directed to have a telephone installed in said Weaver Street Fire House. The Clerk called the roll on the adoption of the reso- lution and the following voted in the affirmative: Supervisor Burton, Justices Collins, Boyd, Dudley and Shafer, John C. Fairchild. Negative - none . The Supervisor declared the resolution unanimously adopted. Mr. Whitbread appeared and entered a complaint against the nuisance caused by stray dogs. No official action was taken by the Board, but it was suggested that the names of owners of said dogs be obtained and submitted to a Justice of the Peace . The following resolution as offered by Justice Shafer seconded by Justice Dudley. RESOLVED that the contract for the extension and altera- tion of the Weaver Street Fire House be awarded to Alvah Jerman, he being the lowest bidder for a price of $1320. and that the Supervisor and Town Clerk be and they hereby are authorized and directed to execute a proper contract on behalf of the Town of Mamaroneck with Mr. Jerman, and be it FUTHER RESOLVED that all other bids are hereby rejected. A vote having been taken, the following voted in the affirmative: Supervisor Burton, Justices Collins, Boyd, Dudley and Shafer and John C. Fairchild. Negative - none. The Supervisor then declared the resolution uranimousley adopted. Mr. Hickey, Supt . of Highways alas requested to move the tree in the rear of the Weaver Street Fire House. Mr. Gagliardi requested the approval of the Board for the use of Justice Shafer's office for the enrollment of the women voters residing in the Fifth and Sixth Election Districts. Upon motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, it was RESOLVED that the request be ganted. There being no further business, upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned. Town Clerk
