New Business:
1. Requests to allow overnight parking on Edgewater Place and Parkland Avenue
A resident of Edgewater Place addressed the Committee. He said he believed there
to be overnight parking on Edgewater and so regularly parked his car on the street,
especially because he has no driveway nor garage. Then he described how a
policeman was called to his house because his car was parked on the street and was
told that Edgewater and Parkland have the no parking from 3:00 am-6:00 am rule in
place. He asked for an official exemption for his area. He and the Committee then
discussed the signage in the area. Mr. Blaufarb and the resident discussed where
residents have been parking.
The Traffic Committee stated they will recommend to the Town Board that Edgewater
Place and Parkland Avenue be added to the list of streets that are exempt from the no
parking from 3:00 am -6:00 am.
Councilwoman Katz explained why certain streets have exemptions. Chair Block
explained the general law for parking. Then Councilwoman Katz discussed past
issues regarding parking overnight.
2. Requests to restrict parking on a section of Winged Foot Drive
A resident addressed the committee. She explained the blind curve issue on Winged
Foot Drive and how cars park in that area.. She described having to drive in the
oncoming lane to drive around parked cars. She requested no parking at 1, 3, 5, 7
and 9 Winged Foot Drive. Ms. Picciotto said 9 is the worst. The resident said she
does feel for those residents but there is a safety concern. Chair Block said people do
walk around that area and discussed how children used to bike around there. Ms.
Odierna asked if any residents from the area are present at the meeting. Mr.

Wrzesniewsky wanted to know if the issue should be limiting parking time or no
parking. The resident said there should be no parking because people travel the
street at different times. Chair Block and Ms. Odierna discussed how to notify the
residents of the houses about what was discussed.
Ms. Picciotto and Mr. Wasp discussed the parcel limits of the area in case changes
needed to be made. She asked about residents of the area building a parking space
on the Town owned portion of their property. Ms. Robson said an analysis would have
to be made.
Another resident said in the past no cars parked there. Chair Block and Ms. Odierna
said to defer the item until the residents are notified.
3. Requests for a crossing guard at Daymon Terrace and Colonial Ave and
improve pedestrian safety at the Murray Avenue School
A resident addressed the Committee regarding a pedestrian safety issue at Daymon
Terrace and Colonial Ave. She said that many cars roll through the stop sign and
cross walk at the intersection of Daymon Terrace and Colonial Avenue to turn onto
Colonial Avenue. She said the Daymon Terrace's visibility is very low and is highly
traffic. She then described the dangers for different types of families and residents as
many near misses have occurred. Increased construction has caused an increase in
cars and trucks parked on Daymon Terrace. During school drop off causes low
visibility, Murray is a walking school but there are few sidewalks. She described three
instances of people being hit. She then asked for the crosswalk to be moved up and
for the turn from Daymon onto Colonial only be a right-hand turn. She also asked for a
crossing guard that would increase safety.
Chair Block said if there was a no left turn onto Colonial Avenue there would be an
increase in traffic on Murray Avenue. Mr. Wrzesniewsky and Ms. Bronheim discussed
the crosswalk in the area. Councilwoman Katz talked about getting sidewalks in the
area. Mr. Wasp discussed the guidelines of installing a crosswalk. He said he
recommended recreating the crosswalk. He said he would put the request in for the
2024 Capital Budget. Another resident again said the stop sign needs to be pushed
forward and the police should survey the area. Mr. Blaufarb discussed how drivers
stop and inch forward when they can't see.
Another resident said the issue is sight distance. He said many cars to get onto
Colonial Avenue have to inch forward to make a left hand turn because of the sight
issue. Councilwoman Katz described the amount of parking previously taken away
and how it helped with traffic. Mr. Blaufarb and a resident discussed the use of a
crossing guard.
Another resident addressed the committee. She said the major issue is personal
safety and the need for a crossing guard. She supported the crosswalk Mr. Wasp
proposed. Mr. Wasp then described his recommendation for the Traffic Committee
and residents.
The mother of a child who was hit by a car addressed the Traffic Committee and
described the accident. She said that many drivers are inconsiderate.
Mr. Wasp said he would analyze the area for the sight distance issue.
Another resident discussed almost being hit. He also described illegal parking on
Daymon Terrace.
Chair Block and Mr. Wasp discussed the standards of crosswalks.
Another resident talked about the three way stop sign.

Another resident described a sign that said that "Stop at the Crosswalk" and different
types of crosswalks in the area.
Ms. Picciotto asked about getting parents to help with crossing in an area that has
added signage.
Ms. Robson said she wants staff to review suggestions and said this issue will be
discussed with the Town Board at a Work Session.
Ms. Bronheim asked about installing posts in the crosswalk. Captain Maher described
how the posts help slow and calm traffic.
A resident asked Ms. Robson when residents should hear back from the Town about
the issue and what a short-term solution would be. Ms. Robson described the
process and how the budget needs to address the concerns of the residents.
Mr. Wrzesniewsky and Captain Maher talked about the parking enforcement officer.
