passed away on February 1st
18.The ice rink sewer line repair was completed just in time for the busy holiday
season. All invoices have been submitted to the insurance company, and we
hope to recoup some of the expenses related to this repair.
19.The Mamaroneck High School hockey team lockers were purchased. They are
scheduled for delivery and installation on February 13th
20.The new exterior doors at the ice rink have arrived and are currently being
installed.
21.The Senior Center's activity room and front porch are scheduled to be renovated
this fall. This project is being administered by the Engineering Department.
22.On January 17th a pre-construction meeting was held at Memorial Park for the
playground renovation. The contractor plans to begin work the first week of
February, weather permitting. This project will take a minimum of 90 days to
complete. The project will begin with installation of a perimeter fence, utility mark
outs, removal of four trees, and demolition of the existing equipment. Appropriate
signage will be posted.
23.We met with a consultant at the tennis courts on January 16th to look at Court #4
to see if it was feasible to add lines for an additional Pickleball court.
Unfortunately, we do not meet the minimum "overrun" safety standards to add
lines for an additional court. The consultant did suggest painting the lines for a
pickleball court on the blacktop under one of the tunnels. A portable net could be
made available for players to use. Ms. Fisher shared an email from Mr. Benoit
Willocq suggesting consideration for adding a pickleball court under each tunnel.
After further discussion, the Recreation Commission would like the staff to
pursue adding lines for one pickleball court under at least one tunnel. The
Commission would also like to continue to pursue the addition of a new set of
platform/pickleball courts across the street from the park in the open grass area.
24.The Recreation Commission has made a request to Mr. Jeffery King, Town
Board Liaison, that the Recreation Commission would like to sit with the Town
Board at least once a year, so the Recreation Commission can express to the
Town Board their interests and what they would like to see accomplished. Mr.
King will relay this to the Town Board.
25.Enclosed was additional information on Remote Control Car Racetracks as a
follow-up to our last meeting in the event the Commission would like to consider
this in the future. Town Board member, Mr. King suggested that a one-day
family race event could be held as an introduction to the sport.
JEFFERY KING, TOWN BOARD LIASION UPDATE:
Mr. King updated the Recreation Commission on the status regarding the study of the
Carpino-Steffens Field which is being conducted by Fields for Kids. Mr. King stated that
there will be no track or playground, and that the Town will retain full ownership. The
study will be looking into building 2 fields, 1 turf and 1 grass. Chairman Druker
expressed concern over their lack of knowledge regarding a turf field being installed and
stated that the Recreation Commission should have a say and input in the decision
making regarding the Carpino-Steffens Fields. Commissioner Gutter expressed his
concerns that the Recreation Commission agreed to the feasibility study to be done but
now the Town Board is signing an agreement without the Recreation Commission's
input. The Recreation Commission would like to see the agreement before it is agreed
upon and signed. Chairman Druker has requested a Resolution be passed and sent to
the Town Board expressing their concerns for their lack of involvement in the process
and that the Commission is to be involved going forward.
