Chairman Druker.
ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES:
On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the Meeting Minutes of
March 22, 2022, were unanimously approved as amended.
PRESENTATION ON MEMORIAL PARK PLAYGROUND RENOVATIONS:
Dawn McKenzie, RLA, Insite Engineering, Surveying and Landscape Architecture, P.C. joined us via
Zoom to present the playground renovation plans at Memorial Park. A slide show of the current
playground equipment at Memorial Park was presented along with two new proposed playground
design options — a "green" version and a "blue" version. After much discussion, the Commission liked
the "blue" version but with a few modifications. Commissioner Gutter expressed concern regarding
the distance from the bottom of the slides to the sidewalk. Commissioner Sigel stated she would like
to see a layout with the tennis courts shown on the plans. Commissioner Siegel would like to make
sure that there is enough play equipment for the younger kids that utilize the park. The Commission
suggested color schemes including blue, green, silver, and a pop of color. The Commission
recommended removing the MOVMNT electronic game piece of equipment that was proposed for the
open space on the other side of the sidewalk. Since this area is limited in size, it is not appropriate as
per code, for any pieces of play equipment.
Ms. McKenzie suggested some important things to keep in mind with regards to this project:
• New sidewalks would be installed.
• The entryway/drop-off area would remain.
• The existing trees would provide built-in shade from the existing trees.
• Installation of a new fence as a barrier along the grass near the cul-de-sac.
• The hedge between the playground and the grass field would be replaced.
• The existing chain link fence between the sidewalk and the parking spaces in the road would
be replaced.
Other suggestions discussed:
• Provide a gaga pit on the far side of the tennis courts.
• A new crosswalk be installed on Myrtle Boulevard.
Ms. Fisher summarized the Commissions requests and stated that a new proposal incorporating their
suggestions and recommendations would be generated, and shared with the Commission at their
next meeting, if not before. Once final approval has been given on the playground design, we will be
able to move forward with this project, and hopefully meet our timeline of beginning construction in
the fall of this season.
