HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022_04_27 Traffic Committee Minutes Town o Mamaroneck NewYork Traffic Committee Meeting Minutes April 27, 2022 A regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee was held on April 27, 2022 at the Town of Mamaroneck Courtroom, 740 W. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, NY. MEMBERS PRESENT: OTHERS PRESENT: Doris Shaw Block, Chair Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Supervisor Matthew Wrzesniewsky Abby Katz, Town Councilwoman Kimberly Larsen Connie Green O'Donnell, Deputy Town Administrator Arthur Katz Lindsey M. Luft, Assistant to Town Administrator Camille Odierna Margaret Delohery, Secretary to Town Administrator Robert Blaufarb Lt. James Maher, Mamaroneck Police Department Virginia Picciotto INTRODUCTION: Comprehensive Plan-PACE Land Use Law Center Consultants Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney and Tiffany Zezula from PACE Land Use Law Center provided an overview of what a Comprehensive Plan is and what our project process will look like. Tiffany Zezula conversed with members of the Traffic Committee about topics that come up frequently at their meetings. OLD BUSINESS: Harrison Drive -Vehicles travelling in excess of speed limit Helen Horsham-Bertels was present to discuss this item and further expressed her concerns. Lt. Maher shared the traffic data that was obtained from the speed traffic monitoring device. He also reported that he tried, unsuccessfully, to speak with the Village of Larchmont Police Department. Chair Doris Block advised Ms. Horsham-Bertels to reach out to the Village of Larchmont. Kimberly Larsen said she will contact individuals she knows on the Village of Larchmont Traffic Commission. OLD BUSINESS -UPDATES: Weaver Street (near Bonnie Briar Country Club and near Saints John and Paul School) -Vehicles Traveling in Excess of Speed Limit Lt. Maher advised that he and Town Administrator Meredith Robson spoke with our contact at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). They will be replacing the damaged chevrons at the top of Weaver Street, signage and fixtures by Saints John and Paul School were updated. NYSDOT advised we may explore a second flashing light closer to the school, but all costs would be the Town's responsibility. He further shared the traffic data that was obtained from the speed monitoring device. The Police Department has been doing more enforcement where they are able to along Weaver Street. Residents requested the speed box be placed on the pole that also has the Tree City sign. Jason Lane - Signage Request Chair Doris Block reported the sign has been put up. Lafayette Road and Huguenot Road- Permanent Curbing Connie Green O'Donnell, Deputy Town Administrator, reported the permanent curbing will be completed this July. NEW BUSINESS: Intersection at N. Chatsworth Avenue and Edgewood Avenue - Pedestrian safety issues Brian Lobel was present to discuss his safety concern. Various suggestions were discussed. Councilwoman Abby Katz mentioned that we are seeking to bring in more formalized decision-making process. The Committee did not make any recommendation. Palmer Avenue and Blossom Terrace -Request for Crosswalk The resident was not present. Chair Doris Block stated this area is in between two intersections with crosswalks. Virginia Picciotto was in support of addressing this area. Kimberly Larsen expressed the idea of having a sidewalk on the side to guide walkers to a crosswalk. The resident appeared after the meeting ended, he was in the wrong location for the meeting. Report of Minutes: October 27, 2021 No comments were made.
