Councilman Paul A. Winick
ALSO PRESENT:

Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation
ABSENT:

CALL TO ORDER
The Town Supervisor called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon.
Hommocks Pool
The Town Supervisor indicated that the purpose of the special meeting was to discuss the
results of the re-bidding of the Hommocks Pool repair project and financial implications to the
Town. The Town Supervisor further indicated that she and the Town Administrator had met
with the School Superintendent and Deputy School Superintendent on Friday June 17 to
receive information on the pool project and also discuss the financing of the project.
The Town Administrator then reviewed with the Town Board the details of the memorandum e-
mailed to the Town Board on June 17, outlining the facts regarding the pool project. Based
upon the last round of bids received for the pool and adding a 10% construction contingency,
the cost of the pool project rises from $6.0 million to $6.8 million.
The School District has requested that the Town consider increasing its contribution to the
project from $500,000 to $900,000. Under this arrangement the School District would increase
its share of the project from $5.0 million to $5.4 million.
Under this proposal the pool renovation would be completed as planned except for some
minor modifications. Also under this plan the project would include improvements to the
woman's locker room. These improvements would be largely cosmetic and include
replacement of some of the lockers and improvements to the dressing cubicles. The Town
Board has requested that a specific list of improvements be established as part of this
process.
One of the important considerations in this matter is time. If the project is to move forward in
September of this year and completed in time for next summer as planned, a decision on
awarding the construction contracts must be made within the next ten days. A concern with
delaying the project is that construction prices will likely continue to rise and make the project
more expensive.
After further discussion the Town Board members in attendance came to the consensus that
in view of the importance of this facility to the Town's Recreation Programs that further
funding should be provided to the project.
June 18, 2005
Representatives of the Town will attend the School Board/School Building Committee meeting
to be held Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the high school. The Town Board will then consider
formal approval of the additional funding at its July meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
On motion duly made and seconded the meeting was adjourned at 12:45 PM.
