The position is vacant due to a resignation this past fall and is reflected in the 2022 budget. If appointed, once she qualifies her title will be changed to Junior Civil Engineer and she will be required to take a Civil Service exam, as explained in the attached draft employment agreement. After conducting an extensive search and interviewing several candidates, Ms. Pennella was selected, based on her interest in the engineering field having recently graduated from the University of New Hampshire, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. Ms. Pannella's studies focused on stormwater management, hydrology and sustainable infrastructure. In addition, she expressed interest in gaining experience in water quality and sanitary waste treatment, which according to Rob Wasp, Town Engineer, are areas that are vital to the Town's ongoing infrastructure needs. Mr. Wasp also values her technical background having used engineering software, such as AutoCAD and ArcGIS, which the Town currently utilizes. Mr. Wasp is recommending that Ms. Pannella be appointed and believes she will be an asset to the overall operations of the Engineering Department. The "buy-out" amount is $4,000 if you would have elected individual coverage or $5,000 if you would have elected family coverage. The payment, which is subject to applicable taxes, is issued after the twelve (12) month period of non -participation. The offer for you to serve as the Administrative Intern is made with the understanding that there is no personal conflict of interest pertaining to you that will adversely affect your ability to perform the duties of this position. You agree that you shall not conduct any private work that would conflict with your duties in the Town of Mamaroneck.
