MEETING MINUTES
June 8, 2021

CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting via Zoom was called to order at 7:10 P.M. by Chairman Druker.
ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES:
On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the Meeting
Minutes of May 11 , 2021 were unanimously approved as amended.
SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE:
Ms. Fisher reported the following:
1 . A copy of a thank you letter from Ms. Fisher to Mr. Ralph Engel was enclosed
thanking Mr. Engel for his participation at last month's Recreation Commission
meeting.
2. A memo to the Town Board from Stephen V. Altieri was enclosed regarding
the Resolution for Financial Commitment to the Hommocks Outdoor Pool
Project for the SAM Grant. The proposed outdoor pool renovation project
would be broken into two phases. If the SAM Grant is awarded, it would go
toward Phase One of which would include the new spay pad area. Pending
funding approval, Phase Two would follow with upgrades to the pool lawn area
and expansion of the training pool.
3. Summer program registration is ongoing. Current registration numbers as of
June 3rd are as follows:
Hommocks Camp
Session 1 : 159
Session 2: 124
Camp Rockingstone
Session 1 : 51
Session 2: 35
Summer Sports Programs: 66
Swim Team: 61
Swim Lessons: 36
4. The first outdoor movie of the season is scheduled for Friday, June 18th with a
showing of "Tom & Jerry".
5. The spring session of public skating concluded with an overall attendance of
223.
6. Spring Hockey will end on June 12th. We had a very successful year even with
all of the COVID-19 restrictions in place.
7. All summer aquatic programs will begin the week of June 28tn

SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED:
8. Our summer concerts in the park will begin on Monday, July 12th. We have
invited food trucks to join us on these evenings.
9. The kayaking classes have 28 participants currently enrolled.
10.All adult summer tennis programs will begin the week of June 28th
11 .The Carpino-Steffens Fields are scheduled to be fertilized the week of June
28th
12.Summer pool hours go into effect on Saturday, June 19th. There will be no
concession available at the pool this summer.
13. Insite Engineering, Surveying and Landscape Architects, P.C. has been
awarded the consulting contract by the Town Board. A preliminary meeting
with Insite Engineering will be held on Friday, June 4th
14.Several applications have been received for the open Maintenance Worker
position. The deadline for submission is June 11th. We hope to have the
position filled by early July.
15.The Fall Food Truck Festival is being planned for early October.
16.The Town is putting out an RFP for consolidated cleaning services for a few of
the Town facilities which will include the ice rink. With the addition of the new
locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers; a cleaning service may be the best
method for daily cleaning and sanitizing. Ms. Fisher will keep the Commission
updated.
17. A copy of the latest New York State Reopening Guidelines was enclosed for
review. We will be following the recommendations that all patrons will continue
to wear masks and social distance when indoors.
18.Ms. Meredith Robson has been appointed as the new Town Administrator.
19.The Ice Breaker Hockey Tournament will be held during the spring season of
2022. Rob Lunde and Dan Demasi will work together to establish a date.
HOMMOCKS PARK ICE RINK 2021/2022 FEES:
Rob Lunde, Ice Rink Manager proposed to increase the Ice Rink General Admission
Fees, Ice Rink Rental Rate and Skating School Fees for the 2021/2022 season. This is
due to the anticipated higher operating costs associated with the new locker rooms.
We can expect increases in our utility bills, staffing costs, and the costs for cleaning for
the new locker rooms and showers.
Adult Child Skates Hourly Rental
Hommocks General Public: $10.00 $9.00 $5.00 $545.00
Hommocks Resident w/ID: $ 8.00 $7.50 $4.00
Staking School Fees: Resident: $95.00 Non Resident: $115.00
Skating School runs six sessions per season.
Each session is a five week session for thirty minutes.
After much discussion, on a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner
Welsh, the Commission unanimously approved the recommended 2021/2022
Admission Fees, Ice Rink Rental Rate, and Skating School Fees.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by
Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the meeting adjourned at
8.20 P.M.
