ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK
JULY 15, 1993, IN THE SENIOR CENTER, TOWN CENTER

CALL TO ORDER
The session was called to order by Chairman Wassman at 6:35 PM. The
minutes of the previous work session were discussed. In connection with
Section 14-29 C 4, it was decided that the Town Board should consider
signs for special events. It was felt that this section needed
clarification particularly concerning banners.
Upon review, the Board realized that, according to Section 14-35 C, neon
signs are forbidden.
The Board decided to change the new photo requirement for Section 14-30 to
4" x 6" photos.
To §14-30 D(5), add "The use of sharply contrasting colors may be
prohibited if inconsistent with the character of the sign and its
surrounding."
Three of the four members present at this point in the meeting were in
favor of eliminating poles signs within 2 years.
The Board was unanimously in favor of adding a new section to §14-32 A:
§14-32 A 3. Security signs shall be displayed as required in §14-32 A
1 and shall be limited to 25 inches square
The measurements for §14-33 B were changed as follows:
Maximum height - 24 inches
Lettering or pictorial matter when part of a sign - 18 inches
Letters attached to a building - 24 inches
A sentence shall be added. . ."These dimensions may be subject to an
increase or a reduction based upon the proportions of the building
subject to review by the BAR."

On motion of Mr. Wassman, seconded by Mr. Fleming, the Board
recommended that the application be held over so that a better plan
with standard lettering and a landscape plan could be prepared.
SATURN USED CARS - 2523 Boston Post Road - Block 504 Lot 126 - Signs
John Crouch, architect, appeared and requested a change in his previously
approved sign application. The pole sign would be eliminated and the
placement of the logo and the name slightly changed.
On motion of Mr. Heisel, seconded by Mrs. Washington, the Board
unanimously approved the word "Saturn" being placed on the face of the
building and the Saturn logo being placed on the eastern facade.

Banners and facade
Andrew Fredman, architect, appeared. He stated that the building still
was not completely rented but that he needed to go ahead with
construction. Mr. Fredman presented a rendering with awnings, grills,
pediments, banners and signs in place and demonstrated an awning sample.
On motion of Mr. 'merman, seconded by Mr. Fleming, the Board voted
unanimously to approve the banners with the following conditions.
The banners shall be well maintained, and the BAR shall approve
the design of each banner.
TOWN OF MAMARONECK - 685 Weaver Street - Block 103 Lot 5
The Town, without a building permit or sealed architectural drawings, had
demolished a building at the Monroe school site and constructed a roofed
porch on the exposed slab. Mrs. Bonsteel stated that the structure will
be bolstered for use this sumer and then torn down and rebuilt. Mrs.
Washington stated that the structure was ugly and inappropriate. Since it
was too late to comment, the BAR rejected the application.
ADJOURNMENT
On motion of Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Heisel, the meeting was
adjourned at 9:45 PM.
