ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK
MARCH 10, 1994, IN THE SENIOR CENTER, TOWN CENTER

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Wassman at 8:00 PM. He
dispensed witL the approval of the February minutes as there was
disagreement about phrasing that part which dealt with the Fire House.
VILLAGE ANIMAL HOSPITAL - 6 Weaver Street - Block 410 Lots 163 and 173 -
- Facade and landscaping.
Appearing were the owners, Patrick and Michelle Hopper, and Lawrence and
Diane Cohen; the architect, Wallace Berger; and the builder, Dennis
Forti. Dr. Cohen stated that the Zoning Board of Appeals had granted a
variance for an addition and parking. Mrs. Hopper presented an
alternative plan using board and batten. Several Board members felt these
materials were too rustic and in visual discord in relation to the
surroundings.
On motion of Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Fleshing, the rendering of
the stucco building as modified to reflect the Board's recommendations was
approved, 3 - 2, Mr. Immerman and Mr. Jacobson opposed.
CHOW-DOWN DISCOUNT PET FOOD - 626 Fifth Avenue - Block 132 Lot 61 -
Signs.
Appearing were Lou Trangucci, tenant, and Tom Guglielmo, owner. Mr.
Immerman suggested that the sign cover the whole entrance bay and be
centered over the windows. A bronze, anodized sign with ivory letters was
proposed.
On motion of Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Immerman, the Board
unanimously approved the amended application.
TOWN OF MAMARONECK FIRE DISTRICT NO. 1 - Fire House - Weaver Street -
Block 123 Lot 329.
Appearing were John Sullivan, architect; Peter Perciasepe, Chairman of the
Board of Architectural Review

Building Committee; Michael Doherty, Chief; Stephen V. Altieri, Town
Administrator, and Elaine Price, Supervisor. Interested residents
appearing were Jim Vosler, 63 Hillcrest Avenue; Arthur Wexler, 316 Weaver
Street; John Rainey, 78 Hillcrest Avenue; Dermod Sullivan, 207 Weaver
Street; Ernie Odierna, 5 High Ridge Road; Chris Clark, 57 Hillcrest
Avenue; and Elizabeth Colleary, 67 Hillcrest Avenue.
John Sullivan stated that, at the Zoning Board meeting the previous night,
the size of the parking lot had been decreased and that a new landscaping
plan would be submitted. The Board members were pleased that so many
improvements had been made to the building. They did feel there were too
many skylights.
The neighbors were concerned about noise, lighting, landscaping and, most
particularly, the drive-through bay.
On motion of Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Wassman, the Board
unanimously recommended to the Planning Board:
1. Lights in the parking lot shall be turned off at 11 PM and may be
turned or for a fire alarm.
2. The number of skylights should be cut in half.
3. The first-floor windows should be restudied.
4. As much stonework should be used as is possible.

No one appeared for the application.
On motion of Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Fleming, this matter was put
over to the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
On motion of Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Fleming, the meeting was
adjourned at 13:40 PM.
