HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992_02_27 Board of Architectural Review Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK FEBRUARY 27, 1992, IN CONFERENCE ROOM A, TOWN CENTER 740 WEST BOSTON POST ROAD MAMARONECK, NEW YORK Present: E. Robert Wassman, Chairman Pamela Washington Robert Immerman Absent: Ralph Heisel Joan Williams Also present: William E. Jakubowski, Building Inspector Bonnie M. Burdick, Recording Secretary CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Wassman at 8:05 PM. The Chairman expressed the concern of the Board regarding the brightness of signs and requested the Building Inspector to assess the brightness of signage and their conformance with the Sign Code. The design concept of white background with opaque letters appears to exacerbate the Board's concerns. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On motion of Mr. Immerman, seconded by Mrs. Washington, the minutes of the meeting of December 19, 1991 were approved unanimously. On motion of Mr. Wassman, seconded by Mrs. Washington, the minutes for January 16, 1992 were approved as corrected by a vote of 2 favorable votes and 1 abstention by Mr. Immerman as he was absent. VILLAGE SQUARE BAGELS - Sign Application 1260 Boston Post Road Block 407 192 Lawrence Gordon, architect, appeared with John Mercaldi, the owner. Mr. Gordon stated that Mr. Mercaldi would be installing two signs. The insert for the shopping center directory would be similar in size to the existing signs and would be brown with white letters. Mr. Gordon stated that the store front would have a grid design and that the sign would be made of a bronze anodized material to match the rest of the center. Mr. Mercaldi agreed to reverse his color scheme to blend with the other signs. Mr. Wassman declared that the B.A.R. is the Lead Agency for this matter which is a Type II action. On motion of Mr. Immerman, seconded by Mrs. Washington, the signs for Village Square Bagels were approved unanimously. The storefront sign shall be made of bronze anodized metal and have white letters. It shall conform to Drawing A-2, dated 1/29/92 which is a part of the record of this application. The pole-sign shall be brown with white letters. February 27, 1992 -2- AMERICA'S CHICKEN - Sign Application 1240 West Boston Post Road Block 407 Lot 192 Andrew Friedman, owner, appeared. He stated that it was important to use his company's logo in his storefront sign. The Board noted the checkerboard used was not in said logo but was nice and persuaded Mr. Friedman to alter the colors used in his design so that there could be continuity within the shopping center. The background would be bronze. Mr. Wassman declared that the B.A.R. is the Lead Agency and that this is a Type II Action. On motion of Mrs. Washington, seconded by Mr. Immerman, the B.A.R. approved the signs for America's Chicken. The pole sign shall be similar to the existing signs in size and be brown with white letters. The storefront sign shall be made of bronze anodized aluminum with cut-out letters. The letters shall be edged with white and shall be teal in color. The checkerboard design which is typical of the franchise logo was approved also.
