Washington, Acting Chair Robert M. Immerman Lucian J. Leone RCFtgl1FU Anthony Spagnola HAY 22 1998 Absent: Edward Z. Jacobson, Chairman PATRICIAN CLERKCCdO E. Robert Wassman MAMARONECK Also Present: Ronald A. Carpaneto, Director of Building CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chair Person Washington at 8:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Upon a motion duly made and seconded, the amended Minutes of the March 19, 1998 meeting were unanimously approved. Acting Chair Washington read the application as follows: GLSN Realty Corp./Gjoko Shkreli - 176 Myrtle Blvd. -Block 133 Lot 642-sign (adjourned 3/19/98) James Gaita of Envirospace, the designer for the project, appeared representing the applicant. He presented an artist's rendering, samples of the materials to be used for exterior finishes and lighting cuts for the project. He proposed a main building color of Dryvit#385A Sandpiper. The accent color would be similar to#339A Caribou but custom-mixed to match the store front metal of Kawneer color Champagne Rose. The storefront will have clear glazing. The steps and paving adjacent to the building will be a custom-color which complements the building's color. The sidewalk and paving near the street will remain as existing, since they were recently repaved. Mr. Immerman suggested that the accent Dryvit in the custom color was an unnatural mauve color and that the Dryvit color #339A Caribou was a more earth-toned color and thus more in keeping with the stucco material. After some discussion, the Board suggested that the finish color be Dryvit#385A Sandpiper for the bulk of the building with #339A Caribou for the accent. The metal store front will be Kawneer Champagne Rose with clear glazing. The suggested round light fixture on the interior wall was not well received, so the Lightolier#6784 was substituted because its square shape recalled more design elements in the building. The sign company was represented by Mr. Gaits. The sign system was changed to be unlit individual letters in a color which matches the storefront metal, standing away from the building plane with lighting behind. The type style of each sign will be the distinguishing feature between tenants. On a motion made by Mr. Immerman, seconded by Mr. Spagnola, the following resolution was unanimously ADOPTED: Board of Architectural Review April 16, 1998 Page 2 WHEREAS, Gjoko Shkreli for GLSN Realty Corp. has submitted an application to the Building Inspector, together with plans to install individually mounted letters, 5' in. deep, bronze color during the day and white illuminated face at night; and WHEREAS, the Building Inspector has declined to issue such permit on the grounds that the review by the Board of Architectural Review is required; and WHEREAS, Gjoko Shkreli for GLSN Realty Corp. submitted an application for approval to the Board; and WHEREAS, this Board has examined the plans, inspected the site, reviewed the application and has heard all persons interested in this application; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the subject amended application be and the same is GRANTED, as amended: 1. Dryvit #385A Sandpiper will be the finish color used for the bulk of the building; 2. Caribou #339A will be the color used for the accent; 3. Kawneer Champagne Rose with clear glazing will be used for the metal store front; 4. The square shaped Lightolier#6784 will be the light fixture that will be used; 5. The sign system will be unlit individual letters in a color which matches the store front metal, standing away from the building plane with lighting behind. The type style of each sign will be the distinguishing feature between tenants. NEW BUSINESS Two representatives from The Coughlin Insurance Company were at the meeting. They supported Mr. Shkreli's proposed improvements to their next door neighbor. However, the extension of the front facade of this building will hide the Coughlin sign on the side of their building. The Coughlins wanted to present a proposal for raising the side lettering on their building and have the Board vote on it immediately. The acting chair requested that they submit a proposal for the committee to study and consider at a later meeting. The BAR was very appreciative of Ms. Roma creating the running checklist. Trader Joe's has installed a shopping cart corral across their entire storefront. Since it was not presented to the BAR, members will observe the built facade and Mr. Carpaneto will review Town Code to see how this issue can be addressed. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the BAR will be held on May 21, 1998. ADJOURNMENT Upon a motion duly made and seconded, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 8:45 p.m. ‘721a Marguerite Roma, ecording Secretary
