Present: Edward Jacobson, Chairman, Ken Ricci, Donald Meeker, Diane Neff, Joseph Shien Also Present: Ronald Carpaneto, Director of Building, Jaine Elkind- Eney. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 8:03 P.M. APPLICATION NO. 1. WALGREENS 1333 Boston Road Sign Steve Moeser, the applicants architect addressed the Board stating they have received Zoning Board approval for a different sign over the parking lot entrance then was previously before the BAR, as well as a variance for the three signs and internal illumination for two signs. The Zoning Board had felt that the sign across from the Hommocks Rd. apartments should not be illuminated, but there should be an illuminated sign over the entrance in the parking lot. Mr. Jacobson asked if the signs could be down sized as the Board felt that the signs could be smaller and work just fine. The size of the signs was discussed. Mr. Meeker felt that a reduction of 10-20% would be adequate as no one else in the area has signs of that proportion. Mr. Moeser stated the next size down from 30 inches is 26 inches and suggested 26 inches with an overall length of 13.4 inches. Mr. Jacobson stated that the sign on Boston Post Road and Hommocks Road would be reduced and the sign will remain as shown on the plan. Mr. Meeker discussed the candle power of the light over the entrance. Motion : To approve the sign application for the proposed 3 signs, 2 of which are to be internally illuminated. The Hommocks Road sign to be 26 inch capital letter non- illuminated flush right. A 26 inch internally illuminated sign on the Boston Post Road side, and an internally illuminated 21 inch sign centered over the awning at the entrance in the parking lot. Action: Approved Moved by Donald Meeker, seconded by Diane Neff 1 Vote Ayes: Jacobson, Neff, Ricci, Meeker, Shien Nays: None APPLICATION NO. 2 SEASONS TOO 1333 Boston Post Road Sign Steve Moeser addressed the Board for the applicant Frank Alfarone. Mr. Moeser stated that is the first meeting, and they are proposing an 11foot 3 inch long sign with 18 inch letters internally lit on Old Hommocks Road and Boston Post Road and 6 inch letters on the rear awning over the parking lot entrance. Mr. Moeser stated that the applicant would be required to appear before the Zoning Board for the third sign and the internal illumination. The Board discussed the sign facing Old Hommocks Road and concluded that it was not necessary as the Boston Post Road sign would be clearly visible to south bound traffic, the ZBA previously rejected Sleepy’s the previous tenant a variance for a sign in that location. The Board discussed the awning sign, and entrance. Mr. Alfarone stated he would remove the Old Hommocks Road sign from the application. The color of the awning was discussed. Mr. Meeker question the font and Mr. Alfarone stated that it is his logo. Motion: To approve the one internally illuminated sign on Boston Post Road, to eliminated the sign on Old Hommocks Road and the awning sign with a maximum 6 inch letters on a 9 inch valance below the coping. Action: Approved Moved by Diane Neff, Seconded by Ken Ricci. Vote: Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote (summary: Yes = 5). Yes: Diane Neff, Donald Meeker, Edward Jacobson, Chairman, Joseph Shien, Ken Ricci. NEW BUSINESS 2 Mr. Meeker stated that the Town Board should look at other ordinances such as Tarrytown regarding illumination. Mr. Jacobson stated internal illumination should be the preview of the BAR which should have more latitude with the sign code. He further asked if the Town Board could revisit the sign code and remove illumination from the code leaving it up to the BAR, so internally illumination would not require a variance. All aspects of signage should be handled solely by the BAR. ADJOURNMENT On Motion of Diane Neff the meeting adjourned at 8:48P.M. Minutes prepared by Francine M. Brill 3
