Jacobson, Chairman Andrew D. Fredman Diane Neff Donald Meeker arrived late Ken Ricci Ronald A. Carpaneto, Director of Building CALL TO ORDER Chairman Jacobson called the meeting to order at 8:00 PM. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes were not discussed. Mr. Jacobson stated that he received a letter from Valerie O”Keeffe thanking the Board and extending her gratitude for their participatiion in the planning of the parking deck on Myrtle Blvd. 1. NAUTILUS DINER Steve Efstathian, the owner and Mike D Giacomo from the Neptune Sign Company appeared and addressed the Board. Mr. DiGiacomo showed a new sign concept and passed out copies. Mr. Jacobson stated that Mr. Meeker had a preliminary meeting with the designers of the diner and recommended a tall, fin-like sign concept to break up the scale of the roof. A discussion of the sign concept followed. After the sign discussion, Mr. Jacobson brought the discussion back to the restaurant. He stated that the collective feeling of the Board is that the lantern on top of the tower will give it vertically. The board asked what kind of illumination will be in the tower, Mr. Efstathian stated that ¾ of the top of the tower will be glass the rest is solid because of air conditioning duct work behind. There will be a chandelier in the tower for illumination. Mr. Efstathian stated that he will not come back before the board again; he asked if the Board liked the color red, and the sign concept. The Board agreed that they liked the red but there may be a problem with the sign concept in regard to the current sign law. Mr. D Giacomo stated the sign drawing that was given to him by someone on the board is not legal in the town and would require a zoning variance which could take a number of months if the variance is granted at all. Mr. Efstathian stated that if they take the present roof mounted sign down they cannot replace It, but if they disconnect it to work on the surface the sign can remain, he believes. The sign in question will be externally illuminated. Mr. Jacobson stated that the redrawn plan should be submitted to Mr. Carpaneto for distribution to the Board, and the Board will make a decision by email so Mr. Efstathian does not have to return. Mr. Efstathian stated that he would like to try for a variance for the new sign concept; Mr. Jacobson stated that he would write a letter to the Zoning Board stating that the Board of Architectural Review is in favor of the sign design, if Mr. Efstathian submits the sign design for a variance. On motion duly made the meeting was adjourned. Minutes prepared by Francine M. Brill
