HomeMy WebLinkAbout1921_08_17 Town Board Minutes Meeting of the Town Board TOWN OF MAMARONECK, held, August 17th, 1921. The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Burton at 10.00 P.M. PRESENT: Supervisor Burton, Justices Boyd, Dudley and Shafer, Town Clerk Sherman. Upon motion, the minutes of the meetings of July 20th, 28th, and August 3rd, 1921, were read and ordered approved. The report of the Receiver of Taxes for the month of July, 1921, was received, read, ordered placed on file and is as follows: August 1st, 1921. The Police report for the month of July, 1921, showing 7 arrests with fines amounting to $120.00 and reporting 2 lights out was received, read, ordered noted in the minutes and placed on file. Supervisor Burton presented a report on behalf of the Committee to acquire a site for the New Weaver Street fire house, which was ordered received, read, ordered entered in the minutes and is as follows: Town Board, Town of Mamaroneck, Gentlemen: On behalf of the Committee recently appointed by this Board for the purpose of acquiring a site for the Weaver Street Fire House, I desire to report that 17 lots adjoining or surr- ounding the present fire house premises, can be purchased for the sum of about $7930. The annexed diagram shows the various parcels, the names of the respective owners and the asking pria,e of each lot. If this Board approves, I ask that I be authorized to obtain from the various owners and execute on behalf of the Town the necessary contracts. I also ask that I be authorized to ne- gotiate and sell at not less than par one or more certificates of indebtedness for a sum of not more than $8,500., with which to pay for said property and also all legal expenses which may be incurred in connection therewith. Whereupon the following resolution was offered by Justice Collins and seconded by Justice Shafer: WHEREAS, by Chapter 561 of the Laws of 1921, Fire District No. 1 of the Town of Mamaroneck, New York, was authorized, upon certain conditions to acquire a site and erect a fire house within said district and to issue not more than $65,000.00 in bonds to provide for the acquisition of said site and for the erection of the aforesaid fire house; and, WHEREAS, the conditions imposed by said act have been duly complied with; and, WHEREAS, it has been ascertained that the sum of $8,500.00 is required to purchase the aforesaid site. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Supervisor be and hereby is authorized and empowered to negotiate and sell one or more certificates of indebtedness the aggregate amount of which shall not exceed the sum of $ 8,500.00, in the name of the Town of Mamaroneck, to bear interest at the rate of not more than 6% per annum and to mature at such date as the Supervisor may determine and shall be sold at not less than par. The proceeds of such certificate or certif- icates shall be applied for the payment of the site to be acquired under the provisions of the aforesaid act and also for the payment of the legal expenses which may necessarily be incurred in connection therewith; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Supervisor and Town Clerk be and they hereby are authorized and empowered to sign and execute such papers as may be necessary to negotiate and sell said certifiactes of indebted- ness. The question being taken upon the foregoing resolution, same was upon roll call adopted by the following vote; AYES: Messrs. Burton, Boyd, Dudley, Shafer and Sherman. NOES: None. The Clerk brought to the attention of the Board the matter of cutting the weeds at the Town Cemetary and upon motion duly seconded, it was VOTED, that the matter of cutting weeds at the Town Cemetary and cleaning up the rubbish be left in the hands of the Town Clerk with power and that the cost of same be made a proper torn charge. The question being taken upon the foregoing motion, same was upon roll call unanimously adopted. Upon motion, the meeting adjourned at 11.15 P.M. Town Clerk.
