TOWN OF MAMARONECK
held, May 15th, 1921
The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Burton
at 9.00 P.M.
PRESENT: Supervisor Burton,
Justices, Boyd, Collins, Dudley and Shafer
Deputy Clerk Sherman,
Councellor Gamble.
The minutes of the meetings of April 14th and 29th, 1921
were read and upon motion approved.
The report of the Receiver of Taxes for the month of
April, 1921 was raceived, read, ordered placed on file and is as
follows;
May 1st, 1921.

Pursuant to Section 23 of the Westchester County Tax Law
I hereby respectfully report the amount of State, County, Town,
School, Highway and Special District taxes together with the int-
erest and penalties thereon, collected by me during the month of

The report of the Town Clerk for the month of April, 1921
was received, read, ordered placed on file and is as follows:

The Police report for the month of April, 1921 was received
and read, showing 26 arrests and total fines amounting to $420.00
was ordered noted in the minutes and placed on file.
The report of the Supervisor for the month ending April
30th, 1921, to, wt:

Supervisor.
The receipt of the policy in relation to the auto
truck being used by the Superintendent of Highways was ordered
noted in the minutes and filed with the Town Clerk upon the
approval of Counsel
Justice Shafer presented a communication from the
American Legion Post of Larchmont, quoting Chapter 360 of the
Laws of 1920 and Chapter 136 of the Laws of 1921, in relation
to Memorial day appropriations to American Legions,;
Upon motion, duly seconded, it was
RESOLVED, that there be appropriated a
sum not exceeding $100.00 under the
provisions of Section 136 of the Town
Law for the purposes of defraying the
expenses for the proper observance of
Memorial Day, which amount shall be
assessed, levied and collected in the
same manner as other expenses of said
Town are assessed, levied and collect-
ed, and it is
FURHTER RESOLVED, that the Town Clerk
is directed to notify the commanders
of the posts of the American Legion
in the Town of Mamaroneck, that under
the provisions of said Section 136,
Commanders and Quartermasters of the
aforesaid posts or camps, by Concurr-
ent action, shall direct the Supervis-
or of the Town, what proportion of
such money so raised, shall be expend-
ed by each of said posts or camps,
which proportion shall be paid by the
Supervisor upon the order or orders
of the Commanders or Quartermaster of
each of said posts.
The question being taken upon the foregoing resolution
same was upon ROLL CALL, unanimously carried.
Mr. H. M. Whitaker was present and addressed the Board
in relation to granting an increasein salary to the Firemen
stationed at Weaver Street Fire House.
Upon motion by Justice Dudley, seconded by Justice
Shafer, it was
VOTED, that the application for an
increase in salary for the Firemen
stationed at the Weaver Street Fire
House be dissapproved, same not
being justified at this time.
The question being taken upon the foregoing motion
same was declared adopted.
Mr. H. J. Brewer, Secretary of the Building Commission
addressed the Board in relation to the hiring of a Clerk for
said Commission, and presented a resolution adopted at a meet-
ing of the Commission on May 4th, 1921 which is as follows.
RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the
Town of Mamaroneck, be and it hereby
is requested to authorize and empower
the Building Commission to hire a
Clerk, to perform such duties as may
be required by them and appropriate
the necessary funds for such purpose.
Upon motion by Justice Collins, seconded by Justice
Boyd, it was
RESOLVED, that the sum of $180.00 be
levied, assessed and collected against
the taxable property of the Town of
Mamaroneck lying outside of the in-
corporated limits of the Villages of
Larchmont and Mamaroneck for the pur-
pose of paying the salary in equal
monthly installments, of a Clerk to
the Building commission, to be here-
after appointed. Be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Building
Commission be requested to recommend
to this Board, the name of a person
to be appointed Clerk and Asisstant
to said Building commission; such
Clark nd Assistant to pz2form such
services as may be assigned to him.
The question being taken upon the foregoing resolution,
same was upon ROLL CALL unanimously adopted.
Mr. Brewer, Secretary of the Building Commission, appeared
in person and recommend Frederick M. Sherman, for the appointment
of Clerk and Assistant to said Building Commission, whereupon on
Motion by Justice Collins, seconded by Justice Shafer the follow-
ing resolution was duly adopted:
RESOLVED, that Frederick M. Sherman be
and hereby is appointed Clerk and Assist-
and to the Building commission to per-
form such duties as may be required at
a salary of $180 per year from May 1st,
1921, to be paid in equal monthly in-
stallments, and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Supervisor
be and he hereby is to pay to said Fred-
erick M. Sherman or his successor, the
said monthly salary upon the presentation
of proper vouchers therefore.
The question being taken upon the foregoing resolution,
same was upon ROLL CALL, unanimously carried.
Mr. Gamble took up various Sewer matters in detail and
the Board voted to hold a special meeting in relation to same
on May 25th, 1921.
Upon motion, the meeting adjourned 11.30 P.M.
