HomeMy WebLinkAbout1921_01_19 Town Board Minutes Minutes of meeting of the Town Board TOWN OF MAMARONECK, held, January 19th, 1921. I The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Burton at 9.00 P.M. PRESENT: Supervisor Burton, Justices, Boyd, Collins, Dudley and Shafer Deputy Clerk, Sherman, Counsellor Gamble. The minutes of the meetings of December 15th and 29th, 1920 were read and upon motion approved. Upon motion, duly seconded it was Voted, that the regular order of business be suspended for the pur- pose of hearing anybody present who wished to be heard. A committee representing the Child Welfare Station appeared before the Board, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs . Dr. Cantle, Mrs. Robins and Miss Freeman, requesting an increase of the Nurse's allowance to $50.00 per month. Mrs. Stevens spoke of the general work of the Child Welfare Station in applying for the increased allowance and Miss Freeman stated that the station at the present time have 134 registered babies. They dispense of 40 quarts per day and daring last month they had 1000 feedings. It was also stated that on a monthly average of a 1000 feedings, the station. loses $100. Upon notion by Justice Dudley, seconded by Justice Shafer, it was RESOLVED, that it is the sense of this Board that the request for an increase in finds of the Child Welfare Station be granted and that Counsellor Gamble be directed to prepare the proper res- olution, same to take affect as of Jan- uary 1st, 1921, if it is found possible so to do. The question being taken upon the foregoing resolution, same was declared adopted by the following vote. AYES: Messrs, Burton, Boyd, Collins, Dudley, Shafer and Sherman. NAYS: None. The report of the Receiver of Taxes for the month of December 1920, were received, read, ordered placed on file and is as follows . Town of Mamaroneck. Office of Receiver of Taxes . Geo. W. Burton, Supervisor. A comounication and schedule of new fares and zones from the Public Service Commission, was received, read and same was ordered referred. to Counsellor Gamble. The bond of Town Clerk John C. Fairchild was presented and approved by Counsellor Gamble with the exception that the Town Clerk have same executed. The bond was ordered filed with the Supervisor. A communication from Mr. L. S. Miller, Receiver of the Westchester Street Railway Company with a schedule of fares collected during the first week under the new zones and rates was received and read. Same was ordered noted in the minutes and referred to the Supervisor. The receipt of the resignation of Officer John Koch as Special Constable was presented by the Supervisor. Upon motion duly seconded, it was Voted, that the resignation of Officer Koch as Special Constable be received and accepted. The question being taken upon the foregoing motion, same was declared carried. The Clerk presented a petition requesting the collection of ashes and garbage in Fire District Two . Same was ordered received, noted in the minutes and filed with the Town Clerk. Whereupon the following resolution was offerred. RESOLVED, that when bids are asked for the collection of ashes and garbage in Fire Dist #1, notice shall also be published to cover the application under the petition as presented by the taxpayers of Fire District #2. The question being taken upon the foregoing resol- ution, same was declared carried. Upon motion, duly seconded it was VOTED, that Counsel prepare the necessary notice to bidders in connection with the awarding of contract for the collection of ashes and garbage in Fire District #1 and Fire District #2, bids to be opened on February 16th, 1921 at 8.30 P.M. and it was FURTHER VOTED, that the said not- ice to bidders be published in the Richbell Press, Mamaroneck Parag- raph and Larchmont Times. The question being taken upon the foregoing motion, same was declared adopted by the following vote. AYES: Messrs, Burton, Boyd, Collins, Dudley, Shafer and Sherman. NAYS: None. The Clerk reported that the abstract of town accounts as prescribed in Chapter 578 of the laws of 1921 have been completed and upon motion duly seconded it was RESOLVED, THAT proper form of notice be published in the news- papers and that the Richbell Press, be designated to prepare the pam- phlet form. The question being taken upon the foregoing motion same was declared adopted by the following vote. AYES: Messrs, Burton, Boyd, Collins, Dudley, Shafer and Sherman. NAYS, None. The Supervisor reported the need of a local Historian for the Town of Mamaroneck and reported the appointment of Mrs. Donald Stevens. Upon motion duly seconded it was VOTED, that the appointment of Mrs. Donald Stevens as Historian for the Town of Mamaroneck be and the same hereby is approved and it was FURTHER VOTED, that the Clerk be instructed to with Mrs. Stevens & the Department at Albany of such appointment. The question being taken upon the foregoing motion, same was declared carried. The following resolution was offered by Justice Boyd and seconded by Justice Collins. RESOLVED, that the Town Clerk be and he herby is authorized and empowered to purchase a new type- writer for use in the Town Clerks office, the expenditure not to exceed the sum of $125.00 The question being taken upon the foregoing motion same was declared adopted by the following vote. AYES: Messrs Burton, Boyd, Collins, Dudley, Shafer and Sherman. NAYS: None. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 10. 30 P.M. John C. Fairchild Town Clerk. Deputy Clerk.
