HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020_05_27 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES May 27, 2020 PRESENT: James Druker William Paonessa Rita Plansky Susan Sigel Brian Welsh EXCUSED: Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Stephen Altieri, Town Administrator Vicky Laoutaris, Recreation Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney, Town Board Liaison Eileen Puleo, Commission Secretary CALL TO ORDER: The meeting via Zoom was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Chariman Druker. SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: nd 1. On Friday, May 22, Governor Cuomo signed an order allowing up to 10 people to be gathered together. We will now be able to resume some programming and plan offering Zumba and Fitness classes outside on the Tennis Courts at Memorial Park. th 2. On Tuesday, May 26, Westchester County entered Phase 1 for re-opening which includes construction. Recreation is listed under Phase 4. th 3. Full-time Town employees will be working until June 6 on an alternating workday schedule. 4. Our June and July classes offered thru US Sports Institute have been cancelled. 5. The June series of Adult and Youth Golf lessons have been cancelled. th 6. On May 13, the Memorial Park Tennis Courts open to Town residents free of charge. All permits have been refunded and a reservation system is in place. 7. Free interactive programs for tot and youth participants on Zoom have been offered: Parent & Me Music and Movement, Pre-Ballet and Bust-A-Move. 8. Recreation Staff have come up with fun activities and have posted them on our Facebook page. 9. Photos of the new electric charging stations that were installed at the ice rink parking lot were enclosed. 10. Construction at the ice rink has been slow due to COVID-19 and some complications found during the demolition phase. It was discovered that the current roof of the backside of the building was not supported as expected. Photos enclosed. 11. Swimming pools are stilled closed at this time and we have yet to receive any time frame for re-opening. We will need to look at cancelling our summer swim lessons and swim team. The Mamaroneck School District is ready to open the pool if needed. No guidelines have been released as of yet. We are preparing for pool staff, lifeguards and safety measures for when this information is released. The Recreation staff have been looking into a Drive-In Movie options if Concerts In The Park don’t happen. We could accommodate approximately 150 cars in Lot 1 for this event. We own our own equipment but would probably have to hire a company for the sound. We are talking with a few different vendors getting options and prices to see if this is feasible. 13. The CDC Guidelines regarding Day Camp have been announced. Many local day camps have already announced that they will be cancelling for this summer. It is our recommendation that Hommocks Camp, Rockingstone Camp, Camp Monroe be cancelled for this summer. After further discussion on this matter and the health of our campers and staff, a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the commission unanimously agreed to cancel all Camps for the 2020 season. All in favor. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Sigel, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
