TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
January 21, 2020

CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting held at the Senior Center was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Chairman
Druker.
ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES:
On a motion by Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi, the Meeting
Minutes of December 10, 2019 were unanimously approved as amended.
SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE:
Ms. Fisher reported the following:

1. Classes for Session 3 of Skating School began on January 7. Current
enrollment is at 355. Last year at this time we had an enrollment of 286.

2. The winter session of swim lessons began on January 11 with an enrollment of
134.
3. Enclosed is a copy of the February Hommocks Park Ice Rink Calendar of Events.
We have a character skate with Olaf and Elsa scheduled on Sunday, January

26.
4. Enclosed for your review are the December 2018 and 2019 Rink General Public
Skating Admission Attendance Numbers. The rink was busy over the holiday

season. General admissions totaled $54,949 between Saturday, December 21
st
– Wednesday, January 1. Last year’s admissions totaled $52,741 during this
same time frame.

5. Enclosed is a flyer regarding our 2 Annual Murder Mystery Dinner scheduled
th
for Friday, March 20.

6. Registration for the Teen Travel Camp will begin on Monday, February 3.

7. The 4 Annual Family Bingo Night was held on Friday, January 17. We had
111 participants who had a great time. Last year’s enrollment was 105.
8. The winter session of Lifeguarding is fully enrolled with 11 participants.
9. A new program, Computer Adventures will be offered for children ages 6 – 10
during the February winter break.
10. The spring/summer brochure is at the printers and will be out to the residents

mid-February. Resident registration will begin on Monday, March 9.
11. We have been informed by the School District that Central School will be the site
for Camp Rockingstone this summer. The Co-op Camp will be moved over to the
Hommocks Middle School while construction is taking place at the Mamaroneck
Ave. School.
12. The Community Solar Project at the ice rink was approved by the Town Board.
This project is still waiting on approval from Con Edison and it will also need to
pass a structural analysis review.

SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE CONTINUED:
13. The capital projects that were submitted for the 2020 budget have been
approved pending the outcome of the submitted proposed costs. We have
already begun working on the following:
Specifications and estimates are being compiled for a new Zamboni.
Supervisor Seligson has asked for consideration of purchasing an electric
Zamboni.
We are researching various storage garage options and pricing. The
garage will be located in a corner of the Senior Center/VFW parking lot
and will be used to store our kayaks, paddleboards and paddles.
We have hired a company to complete a Topographic Survey of Memorial
Park. Enclosed is a copy of “Request for Quotes” for this service. The
next step will be to solicit quotes for Architectural Services.
We will begin soliciting quotes for Architectural Services for the outdoor
pool renovation in March. At this point in time we will have a better sense
of the direction that the rink project is taking.
14. The bid documents for the Hommocks Park Ice Rink Locker Room Renovations

Project will be available for pick up starting January 21. The deadline for
th
submission will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 11. After the bids have been
opened and reviewed they will be shared with the Recreation Commission and
the Town Board. If approved, the bid would be awarded in mid-March.
15. The large meeting room at the Senior Center will be renovated with the following
improvements this spring:
New roof and interior ceiling
New exterior doors
New windows
Replace flooring
New light fixtures
Paint
During this time, all Recreation programs will be relocated to either the Ice Rink
Community Room or the smaller meeting room in the Senior Center.
16. The NHL and Kraft Foods have a joined together to create Kraft Hockeyville
USA. Kraft Hockeyville is an annual competition sponsored by Kraft Foods,
the National Hockey League and the NHL Players' Association in which
communities compete to demonstrate their commitment to the sport of ice
hockey. The winning community gets a cash prize dedicated to upgrading their
local home arena, as well as the opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game.
Runners-up also get smaller cash prizes to upgrade their ice rinks. MYHA with
the help of LMC-TV will be working together to enter the Hommocks Park Ice
Rink into this contest. The theme will be “Community Center” and a 2-minute
video and history of the ice rink will be submitted. The deadline for submission is

February 29.
2020 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES:
The 2020 Scholarship guidelines were reviewed as submitted. The total amount of aid
distributed will not exceed $8,000. On a motion by Commissioner Plansky, seconded
by Chairman Druker, the request to accept the 2020 scholarship guidelines was
unanimously approved.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by
Chairman Druker, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the meeting was adjourned at
7:55 P.M.
