HomeMy WebLinkAbout1919_01_27 Town Board Minutes Meeting of the Town Board, Town of Mamaroneck, held January 27th, 1919 . The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Burton at 11 P.M. The Clerk reported the following present: Supervisor Burton, Justices Collins, Boyd, Dudley and Shafer, J.C. Fairchild, Town Clerk and Ralph A. Gamble, Counsel. Upon motion the reading of minutes of previous meetings not yet approved, was dispensed with. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried it was RESOLVED that the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized and directed to take the necessary steps to review the determination of the State Tax Commission in the New Rochelle Equalization appeal. Upon motion duly made , seconded and carried, it was RESOLVED: WHEREAS the Supervisor has reported to the Town Board of the Town of Mamaroneck that he has been advised by the President of The Larchmont National Bank that by reason of the present condi- tion of the money market said bank might not be able to continue to hold the two certificates of indebtedness in the sum of $17,000.00 on the basis of 5% interest authorized by resolution adopted at the meeting of Januay 14th, 1919, now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Supervisor be and he hereby is author- ized and empowered to enter into a supplemental agreement with the Larchmont National Bank providing for the payment of interest upon the said certificates, at the rate of 5-1/2% instead of 5%. Counsel reported on the Valentine Tax matter in which the Town was served with process. He informed the Board that Mr. Rumsey , the Attorney for plaintiff had originally offered to pay the flat amount of taxes due to wit, $87.50, and that counsel stated that he had had several conferences with Mr . Rumsey concerning the liti- gation and that he now offered to pay $150, in full payment of the amount of taxes, interest and penalties due and to discontinue the action. Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was RESOLVED that Counsel be authorized to settle the Valentine (Maloney) tax suit at $204.00, being 50% of the full amount due settlement to be made on or before February 15th, 1919. The supervisor reported that Barrett & Buckbee had made a request of the Receiver of Taxes for the cancellation of certain tax sales on lots 3, 4 and 5, map of A. Lyon Place. On motion the matter was referred to counsel for an opinion as to the course to be followed. Upon motion the meeting adjourned at 11: 25 P.M., subject to call of the Chair. Town Clerk.
