HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987_10_13 Traffic Committee Minutes t MINUTES OP A REGULAR MEETING OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK TRAFFIC COMMI'TI'EE HELD ON OCTOBER 13, 1987 AT 8:00 P.M. IN THE SENIOR CENTER OF THE TOWN CENTER, 740 WEST BOSTON POST RD. , MAMARONECK, NEW YORK. PRESENT: Martin Zavell, Chairman Richard Mari ALSO PRESENT: Police Chief, Chuck Baumblatt Thomas Amlicke, Town Council Liaisnn ABSENT: Anthony Math Edward E.X. Ryan Leslie Schlom Due to the fact that no quorum was reached, an informal discussion began at 8:30 p.m. Intersection of Murray Ave. , Myrtle Blvd. and Chatsworth Ave. Chief Baumblatt reported that Alan Davis, Dolores Battalia, Commissioner Dallas and Chief Baumblatt met to discuss this intersection. Mr. Davis will have a plan sent to the Town Administrator's office. Chief Baumblatt stated that there are two forces to contend with at this intersection, one is vehicle traffic and the other is pedestrian traffic. Mr. Richard Chabrowe was present to discuss this situation. Stop Sign - Myrtle Blvd. and Preston Street Mrs. Russo, a resident, stated that there has been no improvement in slowing the speed of traffic. Chief Baumblatt suggested that making Preston a two way-street at all times might help the situation. Surveillance was discussed. Fenimore Road Richard Scheyer of Fenimore Road stated the residents' concerns for fast moving traffic on Fenimore Road. The residents suggested the need for trimmed hedges on the street and the possibility of a traffic light. Mr. 3avell stated that he personally would be against a traffic light, but requested that the Police Department furnish the committee with a report of how many accidents have occurred on that street in the last three years. There was further discussion regarding the lack of sidewalks and the speeding traffic along with the request by residents that a stop sign be placed on Fenimore Rd. Mr. Zavell stated that there was an accepted use for stop signs and that slowing traffic was not the accepted use. Mr. Zavell requested that Commissioner Dallas attend • the next meeting where there will be a discussion regarding when and where a stop sign should be placed. Howell Park Richard Hesel represented Howell Park residents. He stated that the existing stop signs had not solved the problem in the area. Residents are requesting that stop signs be placed on Howell Ave. rather than on the side streets entering Howell Ave. Mr. Zavell suggested that this will be discussed at the next meeting when we have a clear definition of stop signs and their use. Village Square Parking Lot Residents expressed concern for children's safety and violence errupting behind the Village Square shopping center due to traffic driving through Burton Road creating a problem for those with reserved spaces in the lot. Mr. Zavell Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee 10/13/87 Page 2 Village Square Parking Lot - cont. suggested the residents bring their concerns to the Town Council. New Business Chief Baumblatt brought up the following for consideration: The Police Commissioner would like to restrict parking for ninety feet on the South side of Palmer Ave. West of the Central School driveway. Left hand turns be eliminated onto Palmer Avenue when leaving the driveway of Central School. There being no further business that could be discussed without a quorum, the meeting closed at 10:00 p.m. with the understanding that a regular meeting would be called in one week on October 20th.
