MEETING OF THE TRAFFIC COMMITTEE 6/18/84 PAGE TWO
Committee recognized that street exemptions can be instituted, but that
it does not answer the need for individual requests.
Anthony Math and Leslie Schlom discussed the legality of individual permits
with Lee Bloom. Lee Bloom pointed out that since the Traffic Committee is
an official body, it must work within the State mandated laws. It was de-
cided that as far as individual requests, there is still the possibility
of issuing permits for legitimate requests.
Although suggested by residents, Martin Zavell pointed out that the Police
Department cannot indiscriminately enforce the overnight parking ban.
The suggestion was made and discussed that parking lines allowing parking,
be put on the street in front of houses with legitimate exemption requests,
Lee Bloom emphasized that the Town Council requested that the Traffic
Committee make a proposal regarding the overnight parking ban along with
possible exemptions to it.
Anthony Math stated that a criteria for exemptions must be developed in
order to present a proposal to the Town Council at their July llth meeting.
The Traffic Committee agreed on the following:
Any exemptions granted will be for one side of the street only.
Committee members will study specific exemption requests.
The draft of the Town Parking Ordinance Overnight Exemptions prepared
and submitted by Anthony Math and Martin Zavell included with these
minutes, will become part of the proposal to the Town Council.
Criteria for exemptions to parking ban will be as follows:
1. Access of emergency vehicles, fire and snow.
2. Length and size of driveway.
3. Number of residents on street who have requested exemption.
4. Hardship.
In order to make their recommendations, the Traffic Committe asked Stephen
Altieri for a list of streets requesting exemptions by petitions and a list
of individual requests. Stephen Altieri agreed to enclose this list with a
copy of the minutes by the end of the week.
