One Way on Forest Ave. - cont.
41 Holly Place, suggested a traffic light that only worked during heavy traffic
or push button activated might help this intersection.
Mr. Bloom stated that the Dept. of Transportation will consider all of the possibilities
when they study the situation. residents asked if there were any way they could help
to get a light installed. Mr. Zavell gave residents the address of the Regional
Director of the N.Y. State Dept. of Transportation. It was agreed that letters
requesting the traffic light might have an impact.
Mrs. Latona stated that once the report is received from the State, this subject
will be put on the agenda again.
A resident suggested that the P.O. Mail Box on Rockland and Forest Avenues be moved
since it blocks the vision of motorists. Mrs. Latona stated that the Committee will
look into this.
Visual Obstruction - Corner of West Garden and Weaver St.
The resident of the corner property received a letter requesting that hedges and
trees be trimmed. The resident complied, but a visual problem may still exist.
It was suggested that the wall around the tree was the problem rather than the
hedges. Mr. Ferrari of the corner address contests the observation that the wall
is the problem. Mr. Altieri suggested that a member of the Traffic Committee and
a member of the Police Department go to the site during the day to assess the
situation. It was agreed that a meeting would take place at the site with Mr. Ferrari
at his convenience.
Overnight Parking - Rock Ridge Rd.
Mr. Altieri received a memo from a resident of Rock Ridge Rd. regarding cars parked
in front of a residents home, due to overnight parking be allowed on his side of the
street. The resident, Mr. Rohr, requested that overnight parking be changed to the
other side of the street.
Mrs. Latona asked Mr. Zavell to write a letter to Mr. Rohr from the Traffic Committee
explaining the reason for the choice of the side of the street for uniform fire safety.
Hof Pof Realty - 170 Myrtle Blvd.
Harold Cohen of Hof Pof Realty stated his difficulty in trying to have his building
conform with the zoning ordinance for business districts which requires one parking
space for every 200 square feet of office space. Mr. Cohen introduced Jim Latta to
present a parking study done for Hof Pof Realty. Mr. Latta felt that the permit
parking spaces limited the number of spaces available for businessmen.
Mrs. Latona explained the purpose of creating the 11 day and night permit parking
spaces. Mr. Cohen pointed out that his business will not increase parking problems.
After discussion, Mrs. Latona asked Mr. Altieri to draft a statement for the Traffic
Committee to review which stipulates that if Hof Pof Realty utilizes lot #2 on
Maxwell Ave. , there is ample parking.
Merchant Parking - Myrtle Boulevard
Mr. Raymond Mancini of 176 Myrtle Blvd. presented the complaint for merchants in the
area that there is little parking available for customers. Mr. Albanese asked that

a portion of the 12 hour meters be returned to two hour meters. Mr. Math pointed
out that he felt we might be eliminating too many short term spaces when the
decision was made to make the meters 12 hour meters, but overwhelming evidence
proved that these short term spaces were totally underutilized. Mr. Altieri
suggested that the problem may be one of cars not moving in the designated time
limits rather than a problem of capacity. He pointed out that if cars aren't
moving in the designated time limits, it cuts down on available spaces.
After discussion, if was agreed that the Traffic Committee write a letter to the
Bell Tower Building asking that their employees park in lot #2 so there will be
more merchant parking. The committee felt that this move plus enforcement of
existing metered parking spaces will make more merchant parking available.
New Business
Mr. Brown lodged a complaint regarding school buses parking long term on Richbell
Road. It was agreed that Mr. Altieri will check the zoning ordinance to see if it
prohibits parking of commercial vehicles on the street.
Richard Mari discussed the problem in getting the Village of Mamaroneck to request
from the State, permission to open up parking on the Boston Post Road in front of
Waldbaums shopping center.
There being no further new business, on a motion from Richard Mari, seconded by
Anthony Math and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
