TOWN OF MAMARONECK TRAFFIC COMMITTEE
October 21, 1997
A regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee was held on October 21, 1997,
in the Town Courtroom, 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, NY. The meeting was
called to order at 8:00 p.m.

Stephen V. Alfieri, Town Administrator
Lt. John Anderson, Town Police Liaison
Phyllis Wittner, Town Council Liaison
Left Turn onto Hickory Grove Drive from Rockland Avenue:
Mr. Stone, of 405 Toni Lane, Mamaroneck, NY, advised that the Town has no jurisdiction in
this matter.
"STOP" Sign at the Corner of Sheldrake/Forest Avenue:
Mrs. Harrington, of 742 Forest Avenue, appeared before the Committee to explain her
concerns regarding the intersection of Sheldrake and Forest Avenue. Members of the Committee
discussed the matter and made the following recommendations for the Town Board: install
"STOP" signs at the Sheldrake/Forest intersection on Sheldrake, and at the Sheldrake/Rockland
intersection on Sheldrake.
Signage on North Chatsworth Avenue and Bryson Street:
Ms. Candace Steiner, of 126 North Chatsworth Avenue, appeared before the Committee on
this matter. The Committee had the following recommendation: leave the current sign
"CHILDREN'S CROSSING AHEAD," and add the sign"STOP SIGN AHEAD/LIMITED SITE
DISTANCE." The children's crossing sign must be straightened out.

Intersection of Chatsworth/Myrtle/Murray-Audible Pedestrian "WALK" Signal:
A recommendation was made to call the Westchester Lighthouse for further information. The
Traffic Committee deferred this matter for Town Board review.
35 North Chatsworth Avenue - "NO PARKING HERE TO CORNER":
The"NO PARKING HERE TO CORNER" matter was determined to require no further
action. The Committee determined that there was no visual obstruction.
Alden Road - Speeding Traffic:
It was determined that no further action will be taken by the Committee.
Signage at Rocky Road/Hickory Grove Drive:
The Traffic Committee reviewed the inquiry of Doug Bloom. A recommendation was made
to replace the current"YIELD" sign with one that is slightly larger.
Four Dangerous Sites: Rockland Avenue/Hickory Grove Drive: Cooper Lane and
Ellsworth Road; Hickory Grove Drive East and West:
Cooper Lane Parking Prohibition: In view of the burden to the residents of Cooper Lane by
eliminating parking, the Committee's decision was to take no further action.
Ellsworth Road/Hickory Grove Drive: The Committee does not want to take away parking
spaces on Ellsworth Road, as there is no history of accidents. The Committee decided to take no
further action.
(2) Items: Additional Parking Spaces on Murray Avenue and Additional Handicapped
Parking Spaces on North Chatsworth Avenue:
The Committee did not feel that additional handicapped spaces were necessary, however,
asked that the Town Highway and Police Departments determine if spaces could be added on
Murray Avenue.
OTHER ITEMS:
• Chevrons need to be installed northbound on Old White Plains Road between Gatehouse Lane
and Wagon Wheel Road.
• Richard Mari reported truck traffic observations on Old White Plains Road. His observations
revealed that there was not a great deal of truck traffic on the road.
• Installation of reflectors on Old White Plains Road at the major curves- contact Mike Sena.
• A traffic review is needed in the area of Marbourne Meadows.
The next scheduled Traffic Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 1997.
