The Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. . He introduced the
committee members and explained the purpose of the committee to those
present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES - On a motion from Mrs. Morehouse, seconded by Mr. Mari and
carried unanimously, the minutes of June 4, 1991 were approved as written.
PROPOSED ZONING ORDINANCE - Mr. Altieri explained that the Town Board would like
the opinion of the Traffic Committee regarding the proposed amendment of
the zoning ordinance to allow for additional parking in the residential areas
of the Town. Since the amendment will change the dimensions of parking spaces,
committee members expressed concern for older, larger cars, two door cars which
require more door room and handicapped people which require larger spaces.
After discussion, Richard Mari made the following motion: The Traffic Committee
approves of the ammendment with the understanding that ten percent of the parking
spaces in any given lot remain the same dimensions as required before the
amendment.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Zavell and the vote was as follows: Mari, Zavell,
Morehouse, Magazino and Math-aye, Lobl-nay. The motion carried by majority vote.
MURRAY AVENUE - Several residents addressed the committee regarding their concerns
on Murray Avenue. These concerns included the fact that the road has not been
repaved, speeding is still a problem, commercial traffic is still a, problem and
the sign directing traffic to Route 1 has dissapeared.
Mr. Altieri reported that the directional sign for Route 1 has been stolen twice
but will be replaced again. He further reported that he has been in contact
with the County representative regarding paving of Murray Ave. and has been
informed that Murray Ave. has not been included in the paving schedule for 1991.
The Committee discussed the problem of speed and commercial traffic on Murray
Ave. Chief Munch stated that he will reinstitute selective enforcement at this
site after the next rotation. The Chief feels strongly that marked cars bring
down speed.
The Committee also discussed putting a weight limit for vehicles on Murray Ave.
Mrs. Morehouse, Mrs. Magazino and Mr. Math were in favor of weight restrictions.
Mr. Mari and Mr. Lobl felt that this should be used as a last alternative since
it will force trucks to another local street and create the same problems there.

MURRAY AVE (cont. ) - Mrs. Magazino asked that the appropriate Town agency look
at Murray Ave. and bring recommended weight limits for commercial vehicles of
tractor trailor size to the traffic committee.
It was agreed that Mr. Altieri will copy the pages of the book on signs showing
possible signage to limit trucks. Mr. Altieri will also include a copy of the
police report on Murray Ave. truck traffic by request of Mrs. Morehouse.
Alice Hefler of 119 Murray Ave. stated that Murray Ave. is a short street with
a school on it. She represented a group who is requesting that the stop sign
be removed during the summer months when school is not in session.since it
creates a disturbance when traffic stops and starts.
After discussion, no one on the Committee felt it would be appropriate to
remove the stop sign on a temporary basis. Mrs. Magazino requested that Chief
Munch investigate Mrs. Hefler's complaint regarding a disturbance due to the stop
sign.
DRAFT GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT - Mr. Mari presented the report
of the sub-committee.
On a motion from Mr. Zavell, seconded by Mr. Math and carried unanimously,
