UPDATE-PARKING FAIRWAY DRIVE Paula Whitten of 6 Fairway Drive reported that at the end of December there had been no improvement in the parking situation on Fairway Dr. The Police Commissioner reported that he had dispatched a Lieutenant on January 7th from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. . The Lieutenant reported that more than 60% of the parents made use of the school driveway. There were three or four vehicles on the street at any one time. Mr. Math stated that due to the turn over in parents for each school and camp season, the school need an established pattern for pick up and drop off. Mrs. Magazino stated that she agrees with Mr. Math. Since this is a safety issue, she feels the Town should encourage the school to follow a set procedure. Mr. Mari suggested that the committee thank the school for their present cooperation and request that they establish a formal procedure for drop off and pick up which could be put in writing and given to new enrolees. Mr. Zavell asked that a letter be sent by the Town Administrator at the request of the Traffic Committee regarding set procedures for pick up and drop off of children at the school since it seems to be a problem with each new enrollment. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT ON PARKING LOT #2 AND PARKING LOT #3 As chairman of the subcommittee, Mr. Lobl made the presentation which addressed the following concerns: Not enough daytime parking and confusing signs in the parking lots. The recommendations of the subcommittee were discussed along with suggestions. Mr. Altieri suggested that the subcommittee report be referred to the appropriate departments in the Town and have this staff report back to this committee at the February meeting. The Traffic Committee could then make their recommendations to the Town Board. The Committee agreed with this suggestion and thanked the subcommittee for an excellent report. Mr. Mari further suggested a notice be placed in the Town Newsletter regarding a commuter bus to the Railroad Station. Mr. Altieri did not feel that the Town could subsidize the service. Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee January 8, 1991 Page 2 TRAFFIC CONTROL - 16 NORTH CHATSWORTH AVE. Resident Nancy Angiulo of 16 N. Chatsworth Ave. repeated the residents concern regarding exiting the parking lot onto North Chastworth Ave. The Police Commissioner gave his report which included the fact that the department is against instituting any traffic control devices in this area. He further reported that investigation of automobile accidents at this location has not disclosed an association with excessive speed or other common de- nominator. The Police Commissioner further stated that the location will remain under study during January and February 1991. STUDY OF INTERSECTION-EDGEWOOD AVE. , MURRAY AVE. AND HILLSIDE RD. A memo from the Town Administrator asked that the Committee articulate the scope of the study at this intersection so that the appropriate Town departments can begin the necessary work. A memo from the Police Commissioner states that the police department's position is that the stop sign should be removed and strict selective speed enforcement should be instituted. After discussion, the committee agreed that the study should include the geography of the intersection in regard to visibility of drivers entering Murray Ave. from Edgewood Ave., Echo and Hillside Road. It was agreed to put this on the agenda for the February meeting. FOUR HOUR PARKING - JEFFERSON STREET Mr. Math requested that this item be tabled until the next meeting date in order to allow more input from residents. Mr. Altieri asked that Mr. Math contact his office if he would like them to notify the heads of the cooperative owners regarding four hour parking. TRAFFIC - BURTON ROAD Mr. Altieri reported that a meeting has been called with residents of Burton Road for January 22, 1991 to discuss the traffic problem. Mr. Altieri explained that the complaint is with through traffic not Acres lot traffic. The suggestion was made that more speed bumps be installed on the access road. Mr. Mari will attend this meeting also and report back to this committee. LETTER OF MR. JAMES MCDONNELL The letter referred to the committee by Supervisor Silverstone deals with an exclusive pedestrian cross signal at the intersection of Myrtle Blvd. , Murray Ave. and Chatsworth Ave. . Since the committee has studied this intersection and this particular problem in the past, it was agreed that Mr. Altieri will respond to the resident on this matter. UPDATE-COMMERCIAL TRAFFIC MURRAY AVE. A report was received from the Town Administrator regarding the Police Commissioner's request for a temporary weight station on Murray Ave. to discourage truck traffic. The sign stating U.S.1 with an arrow will be installed. PARKING-PLYMOUTH ROAD It was reported that residents have requested that parking be moved to Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee January 8, 1991 Page 3 PARKING-PLYMOUTH ROAD (cont.) the opposite side of Plymouth Road and widening of Winthrop Ave. The Town engineers are studying this proposal and will have a report at the next meeting with their recommendation for widening either Plymouth or Winthrop and which would give the greater benefit for parking. NEW BUSINESS MURRAY AVE. Mr. Kenny expressed his concern with vehicles crossing over the double yellow line on Murray Ave. , particularly near the school. He asked if suggested posting signs as a way of correcting the problem. Mr. Mari suggested that shifting the double yellow line off center at this location may help since there are no parked cars on the other side of the street. Commissioner Dallas stated that he does not feel signs will help the situation. He suggested selective enforcement as a solution. He would also like to look at the area to see if parking should be precluded from both sides of the street in this area. NEXT MEETING DATE It was agreed that the next meeting will be held Monday, February 25, 1991 in the Senior Center of the Town Center at 8:00 p.m. .
