Traffic Committee Minutes
January 23, 1996
The Chairman and Members of the Committee then explained the procedure for obtaining an
overnight parking exemption and the background of the Committee's previous work on this
matter. It was further explained that the exemption cannot be granted selectively and that
residents are allowed to park on any Town Street. After further discussion between the
Committee and the residents, the following action was taken. The Police Dept. will prepare six
months of data on overnight exemptions granted for parking. The listing will show the number
of repeat permits issued and the Committee can detect any abuse of the system by residents. At
that point the Committee will consider any changes necessary to the exemption program. The
information will be provided at the next meeting.
The Committee also decided that the "No Parking Here to Corner" prohibition should be
expanded to assure access to Blossom Terrace. Therefore, on motion by Mr. Lobl and second by
Ms. Angiullo, the Traffic Committee unanimously,
Resolved, to recommend to the Town Board that the "No Parking Here to Corner"
ordinance on the east side of Blossom Terrace at the intersection of Palmer Ave. be expanded to
a distance of 80ft. west on Blossom Terrace.
Intersection of Fenimore Road/Boulder Brae/Durham Road
The Committee reviewed the letter of Mr. and Mrs. Berning. Mr. and Mrs. Berning appeared
before the Committee to present their letter regarding the visibility of traffic on Fenimore Rd. for
traffic exiting Boulder Brae.
The Police Dept. had researched accident records for this intersection and found that there had
been no reported accidents involving vehicles exiting Boulder Brae or Durham Rd.
After further discussion, the Committee directed that the Town amend the current Hidden
Driveway sign to read Hidden Road and to add a suggested speed limit to the sign.
Old White Plains Road
The Committee reviewed a letter submitted by Hugh Shevlin of 1 Wagon Wheel Road. Mr. and
Mrs. Shevlin appeared before the Committee to present their letter. The Shevlins expressed a
concern over the accidents that have occurred at the bend on Old White Plains Road near Wagon
Wheel Road. The discussion was to decide what, if any, other solutions might be possible to
alleviate the problem at this location. The matter will be placed on the next agenda, however in
the meantime the Police Dept. and Highway Dept. will consider other alternatives.
The next meeting of the Traffic Committee will be March 12, 1996.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
