HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000_09_12 Traffic Committee Minutes F a, TOWN OF MAMARONECK TRAFFIC COMMITTEE 0 0 Meeting Minutes • FOLGDED 1EE' • Tuesday, September 12,2000 A regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee was held on September 12, 2000 in the Senior Center at Mamaroneck Town Center located at 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck,New York, 10543 Members Present: David Lobl Camille Odierna Rosalind Weinstein Pincus Leitner Domenic Derrico Nancy Angiulo Richard Mari Members Absent: Judith A. Myers TOM Town Board Lt. John Anderson TOM Police Department Others Present: Stephen V. Altieri TOM Town Administrator Committee Business: Approval of Minutes June 27,2000 1. Correspondence from Joy Millette dated June 27,2000,re: speeding and lack of speed bumps on Maple Hill Drive. - Discussion by the committee on this matter. Mr. Leitner suggested a"School Zone Ahead" sign. The Committee, however, decided that this was an enforcement issue for the Police Department. The Committee requested that Maple Hill Drive be placed on the enforcement list. 2. Correspondence from Beth Boyle dated August 7, 2000, re: speeding problem on Fernwood Road/Clover Avenue. - Bill Wolff and David Henderson — Residents of Fernwood Road appeared before the Committee to ask for reconsideration of the previous request to install stop signs at the intersection on Fernwood Road. Camille Odierna indicated that after reviewing the matter again, she would be in favor of a four-way stop sign. C:\My Documents\Traffic\Minutes 9-1 2-00.doc On motion by Lobl second by Odierna, the Committee recommended on a vote of six in favor and one against to install stop signs in both directions on Fernwood Road at the intersection of Clover Avenue. 3. Correspondence from Chubby Autorino dated June 24, 2000, re: proximity of speed limit signs on Harmon Drive. - Mr. Autorino appeared before the Committee. His request is to move the 30mph signs from current location to a location near the Girl Scout House. Approved by the Committee. 4. Correspondence from Peter Papazoglou dated July 10, 2000, re: speeding traffic at the intersection of Harrison Drive and Woods Way. - Mr. Papazoglou appeared before the Committee. Mr. Mari expressed concern with the in- stallation of a stop sign at this location; cars stopping on the hill of Harrison Avenue could be a safety hazard. Also, the stop sign is not an appropriate speed control method. Ms. Angiulo asked that this matter be deferred to October to allow the Police Department to provide information. Memo to John Anderson requesting satisfactory information. Send October meeting notice to Mr. Papazoglou. Items Not On the Agenda: Traffic traveling from Myrtle Boulevard to Edgewood via Preston. Catherine Wachs appeared before the Board. She expressed concerns that there are a number of cars from the train station using Preston St. and Edgewood Avenue as a short cut. On motion by Dave Lobl and second by Donald Derrico 4 in favor, 1 against that the Town erect a "No Left Turn" sign on Myrtle Boulevard (Eastbound towards Weaver Street before the intersection of Preston). 5:00— 7:30 p.m. Monday—Friday. 5. Correspondence from Dipanjan Ghosh dated July 26, 2000, re: traffic,speeding, noise, congestion and vehicle emissions at Myrtle Blvd./Weaver Street. - Mr. Ghosh appeared before the Committee and discussed his concerns regarding traffic on Weaver Street. Specifically, the residents concern was for cars making a right turn on red from Myrtle Boulevard onto Weaver Street. The resident requested that the"No Turn On Right"regulation become permanent. Mr. Leitner agreed with Mr. Ghosh that the"No Turn on Red"be made permanent on Myrtle Boulevard to Weaver Street. Motion by Mr. Leitner seconded by Donald Derrico it was unanimously approved to amend"No Turn on Red" to be permanent. Also,Town will relocate Hidden Driveway sign in front of 191 Weaver Street —Install bigger sign if possible. 6. Correspondence from Blandine Valla dated August 24, 2000, re: visibility by motorists of children playing at Byron Lane. - Children at Play signs—Byron Lane. The Committee followed its long standing practice of C:\My Documents\Traffic\Minutes 9-12-00.doc • . not installing this type of sign in the Town. 7. Gail Hiler: Request for stops signs to be moved from Meadow Place and Hawthorne Road to Howell Avenue. - Relocation of Stop signs at Intersection of Howell, Meadow and Hawthorne. Howell Park residents are requesting that the Stop signs be placed on Howell Road and removed from Meadow and Hawthorne. The Committee discussed the best arrangement for Stop signs at the intersection, motion by David Lobl second by Donald Derrico, it was approved to recommend to the Town Board that stop signs be installed on Howell Avenue before Meadow going East and a Stop sign be installed on Howell going west before the intersection with Hawthorne Road. 8. Adam Saber Winthrop at Plymouth Concerned that the streets are used as a shortcut before Weaver Street and Boston Post Road. The Committee determined that there appeared to be no way to prevent traffic from traveling through Winthrop. - Install Stop sign at Chase Bank driveway on Winthrop.
