HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001_11_27 Traffic Committee Minutes 04. 0 , TOWN OF MAMARONECK TRAFFIC COMMITTEE 4' m MEETING MINUTES • FOUNDED TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2001 A regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Traffic Committee was held on November 27, 2001. in the Courtroom at Mamaroneck Town Center located at 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, New York, 10543. Members Present: David Lobl, Chairman Pincus Leitner Camille Odierna Richard Mari Nancy Angiulo Donald Derrico Judith Myers—Councilwoman Stephen Altieri —Town Administrator Others Present: Lt. John Anderson Town of Mamaroneck Police Dept. Committee Business: Approval of Minutes for October 9, 2001. 1. Request for stop sign at corner of Plymouth Road and Winthrop Avenue. - This is an item from the last meeting. Residents from the area appeared to discuss this issue. Residents believe the sign is necessary because of a lack of sidewalks on Winthrop and Plymouth Road. Also, there is a lack of visibility as cars travel around the corner of Plymouth onto Winthrop. The committee reviewed the advantages and disadvantages of the installation of a stop sign. Motion by Richard Mari second by Donald Derrico. Resolved that a recommendation be made to the Town Board to install a stop sign at the corner of Winthrop and Plymouth Road. Vote: Aye—5. Nay — 1. 2. Correspondence from Sean Murphy— 1294 Palmer Avenue. - Discussion of Installation of a "No parking here to corner" sign at this location. Committee recommends the installation of a"No parking here to corner"at this location to improve visibility for traffic exiting at this location. Optimum distance to be determined at the site. 3. Correspondence from Rick Gere 40 North Chatsworth Ave. - The Traffic Committee deferred this matter to the next meeting. C:\My Documents\Traffic\Minutes 1 I-27-01.doc 4. Edgewood Avenue Traffic. - Residents of the street appeared before the Committee. Areas of concern include speed on the street, corner parking on both sides of the street and pedestrian traffic. A presentation was made by residents of the street. Committee addressed the issues as follows: Speed Limit—The Committee indicated that lowering the speed limit to 15 mph. would violate state law. Also, enforcement would be impractical. Police Department will be asked to increase speed enforcement on the street. Street Lighting—Residents expressed concern over the fact that the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Murray Avenue is dark in the evening. The Committee requested that the Highway Department look into the lighting question. Reduce traffic on Edgewood — prohibition of commercial traffic—The Committee did not agree with this recommendation by the residents. Their feelings were that the commercial traffic would move to other streets. No Parking Here to Corner — The Committee considered and unanimously recommended the establishment of no parking zones on Edgewood Avenue at the intersections of Murray Avenue and North Chatsworth Avenue. Commuter Parking Ordinance—Police Department will survey the cars parked on Edgewood Avenue near Murray Avenue to determine if they are residents or non-residents. -Place Edgewood on the next agenda in January— Notify Edgewood residents of date.
