Old Business:
1. Correspondence from Mr. Ed Huff Regarding Parking of Car Carriers on
Boston Post Road near Dillon Road. The Committee discussed whether to
recommend making a loading zone to the West of Dillon on the Sound side of the
Post Road. This may have the result that employees of the car dealer and other
persons will park on Dillon Road and its offshoots instead, which will take spaces
away from Dillon residents, a number of whom do not have driveways. This was
discussed along with the related item of new business, the letter from Michelle
Campbell complaining about cars that are never used but are stored on the streets
around Dillon Road, lowering the number of spaces available to residents.
Possible solutions to these issues were discussed, including making a loading
zone on the Post Road and restricting parking for certain hours on Dillon similar
to the restrictions on Edgewood, forcing residents to move their cars and
discouraging business employees from parking on those streets. Another possible
solution, proposed by Lt. Cindrich, is to create a residential parking district in the
Dillon area like the one being proposed for Washington Square. The Committee
requested that the Town Administrator look into the feasibility of creating a
residential parking district in this area.
2. Murray Avenue School Recommendations
It was reported by Mr. Fishman that the Committee's two recommendations to
restrict parking on Colonial Ave. and Forest Avenue went to the Town Board, and
no further action is necessary by the Committee.
3. Traffic on Ferndale Place The access to Central School from Ferndale is
supposed to be for emergency vehicles only. The Committee has not received
confirmation that the street is being used by Central School buses and, if it is,

whether that is sanctioned by the school. The Committee requested that the Town
Administrator and Det. Bob Reynolds have a dialogue about this issue.
4. Handicapped Space in Larchmont Acres The Committee reconfirmed its prior
recommendation that Mr. Koppinen be informed that any request for handicapped
parking must be made through the coop's board.
5. Changing of Tuesday/Thursday New Jefferson Signs per Town
Administrator's memo of 2/23/08 and Washington Square Traffic Meeting
Currently parking is prohibited on Tuesday and Thursday mornings on New
Jefferson Street to accommodate street sweeping and discourage long term
parking on the street. There will be a need for additional parking spaces for
Washington Square residents while construction is underway on the new parking
deck on Myrtle Avenue, and the Washington Square Traffic Committee asked that
this Committee make parking on New Jefferson Street less restrictive. Therefore,
the Committee voted to recommend that the parking on New Jefferson Street be
changed as follows: no parking 9-12am the third Tuesday of the month on the
eastbound side and no parking 9-12am the third Thursday of the month on the
westbound side. David Fishman undertook to take this recommendation to the
Board which was meeting on 5/21 so that it could be put into effect as soon as
possible.
6. Right Turn on Red from Chatsworth onto Myrtle Valerie O'Keefe asked the
Committee to look into a sign she saw in Chatham, NJ that might be feasible for
this corner. Lt. Cindrich followed up with the Chatham PD and reported that the
sign was very expensive and there was no place to put it. The Town
Administrator is looking at the feasibility of an advanced walk timing mechanism
for this corner. Also, the engineer was being asked about changing the timing of
the light on this corner to facilitate the flow of traffic. The Committee deferred
this issue to the June meeting, pending receipt of information from the Town
Administrator and the engineer.
New Business
1. Correspondence from Michele Campbell regarding parking on Dillon
This was discussed along with Mr. Huff's correspondence, as noted above under
old business.
2. Grant Initiative by School District for Student Safety Lt. Cindrich briefed the
Committee that the proposal includes a request to change the Hommocks
crosswalk but currently there is no agreement about where to relocate it. Other
issues related to the grant initiative were deferred to the June meeting, when the
Town Administrator can present them.
Next Scheduled Meeting on Tuesday June 17
