Old Business:
Intersection of North Chatsworth Avenue and Myrtle Boulevard:
Bill Cimino, a consultant from PSC Engineering, was present to discuss improvements to
the North Chatsworth/Myrtle Boulevard intersection. The following recommendations
were made by the Committee:
(1)No Left Turn onto Chatsworth From Myrtle.
Resolved: to allow left turns onto Chatsworth from Myrtle during non-peak periods
during the week and all through the weekend.
Committee requests that samples of new "no turn on red" signs designating times when
these turns on red are permitted be drafted. The Committee would like to see several
mock-ups so that they can determine which wording and which layout would be easiest to
read and understand. Residents Margie Wechsler and Peggy Rowe are concerned about
"complicated signage" and request that the signs be as concise as possible.
Lt. Cindrich will work with Bill Cimino on a quick traffic study to determine if 4 PM to
6PM is the correct evening "peak period." Lt. Cindrich believes that 5 PM to 7 PM is
actually the peak period at this location, but will observe the traffic flow and bring a
recommendation to the Committee at the next meeting. It was agreed that 7 AM to 9 AM
reflects the morning peak period.

(2)E-mail to Supervisor O'Keeffe from resident Robert LoBue dated June 10, 2008
concerning the signal timing at Myrtle Boulevard and Chatsworth Avenue. He states that
there is not enough time for traffic to proceed through Chatsworth Avenue and that the
situation is worse in the evenings. Sometimes it takes him eleven minutes to go from the
top of the exit ramp in Lot#3 to the corner of Chatsworth Avenue and Myrtle Boulevard.
Resolved: Bill Cimino will look into the timing of the traffic light at that location. Bill
reported that it was a 13 second light which is too short an interlude and it will be reset.
Committee asks that Steve write to Mr. LoBue to let him know that the engineer will
reset the traffic light and to follow up with Bill Cimino to make sure that there is a report
for the next Traffic Committee meeting.
(3) The signs "Murray and Myrtle" on Myrtle Blvd as you approach Chattsworth Avenue
from the Thruway are confusing to drivers and are causing them to change lanes
abruptly.
Resolved: The signs will be taken down. If their removal causes a problem and they need
to be replaced, they should be made bigger and clearer so that drivers will spot them
before they are on top of them.
(4)No Right Turn on Red From North Chattsworth To Myrtle
(Resident Robert Friedman expressed the opinion that this is another issue of traffic light
timing)
Resolved: Permit right turn on red to relieve traffic congestion and put"yield to
pedestrians" sign in the crosswalk. (Committee is considering permitting turns on red at
all intersections to improve traffic flow).
The Traffic Committee requests that communication between the Town Administrator,
the Police Department, PSC Engineering and the maintenance contractor Verde Electric
be consistently maintained and that a report be presented at the next meeting confirming
when residents can expect that the loop detectors will be repaired and the traffic light
timing adjustments and resetting work will be completed. They also would like this
information to be communicated to residents via the Town's website.
Traffic on Ferndale Place
After construction of the "Trader Joe's fence," the School District began using Ferndale
Place as a through street for buses and other vehicles. Ferndale Place was never designed
to be a through street---children and pedestrians use it, and the intersection of Ferndale
and Weaver is very dangerous.

Resolved: To close Ferndale Place to through traffic. The Traffic Committee requests
} that the Town Administrator negotiate the issue with the School District.
New Business
E-mail to Supervisor O'Keeffe from Eliza d'Amore with attached petition from local
residents dated May 29, 2008 Re: Accident Prevention on Harmony
Drive/Kenmare/Alden & Copley Roads. Mrs. D'Amore states that the 30 MPH speed
limit sign on Kenmare Road has been absent for a year, resulting in speeding traffic.
Resident Robert Friedman described the hazard of motorists whipping through these
winding roads at over 30 miles an hour on a daily basis. Other residents believe that some
of the traffic is due to transporting new cars to the Lexis lot.
The Committee requested additional information from Lt. Cindrich on this matter. He
will conduct a speed survey of the area and report his findings at the next meeting. He
will also determine where the boundary line between the Town and Village is located.
Some members thought it might be Alden Road. The Chair asked Lt. Cindrich to make a
recommendation as to whether a stop sign would alleviate this problem and where it
would do the most good. He will do that at the next meeting.
Next Meeting: July 15, 2008
