1. Baldwin Avenue Parking Proposal. The Committee reviewed the proposal from staff to clarify
parking regulations on Baldwin Avenue. The Committee, after much discussion, recommended the
following plan: The first 8 spaces closest to Myrtle Boulevard will be assigned using parking meters
that will permit 12 hours of parking. The meters will be in effect Monday through Friday 6:00AM to
6:00PM. The next 23 spaces on Baldwin Avenue will be designated two hour parking 8:00AM to
6:00PM Monday through Friday. These spaces will be for residents on the street and those utilizing
Memorial Park.
The Town Administrator indicated that for the next meeting the Committee will receive the final draft
of the plan along with the necessary legislation.
2. Correspondence — re: Poplar Road. The Traffic Committee received correspondence from a
resident on Poplar Road and Assemblyman George Latimer for the Traffic Committee to consider
making Poplar Road one way.
After review by the Traffic Committee, there were concerns over increased speed on Poplar Road if
it was one way. Also, the Traffic Committee was concerned that if Poplar Road was made one way
the alternate traffic pattern could negatively impact other streets in the area. As a result, the
Committee made the decision to not consider this recommendation any further.
3. Complete Streets Program. Councilwoman Nancy Seligson presented to the Committee the
information included in the Committee's packet regarding the Complete Streets Program.
Councilwoman Seligson clarified that the purpose of the program was to increase awareness
amongst motorists of the shared use of streets by the pedestrians and cyclists.
The Complete Streets Program recommends improvements along Palmer Avenue to paint
sharrows on the street that would raise awareness of the use of the streets by cyclists. It was
decided that Councilwoman Seligson will arrange for representatives from the Complete Streets
Program to attend the January 25th Traffic Committee Meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
