Review of Traffic Committee Meeting Minutes of May 9, 2011.
1. E-mail - Pier Witek re: Forest Avenue. Ms. Witek appeared before the Committee
and expressed concern over the rejection of the stop sign by the Town Board. The
Committee indicated that there was nothing else that could be done at this time. The
Town will evaluate the impact of the one stop sign at the 90c bend near Rockland
Avenue. The Town will attempt to add Forest Avenue as a selective location for speed
enforcement. The Town will investigate initiating a truck ban and the potential impact.
Place the potential truck ban on the September agenda.
2. Correspondence Kristen Fleming re: Speed on Hillcrest Avenue. The Committee
reviewed a memorandum from Lieutenant Michael Cindrich regarding the Police
Department speed survey on Hillcrest Avenue. The memorandum indicates that with
some exceptions the average speed of cars was 30mph. The Police Department will
continue to monitor Hillcrest Avenue.
3. Correspondence - Robert Goldstone re: Parking on Chester Place. The Traffic
Committee decided at the time to take no further action. However the Committee asked
that the Police Department enforce the "no parking near a stop sign" ordinance.
4. Correspondence - Sally Mack re: Entrance to Village Square. The issue is the
conflict between pedestrians on the Boston Post Road and vehicles entering and exiting
the shopping center. Sally Mack and Kim Langer appeared before the Traffic Committee
to discuss this matter. The Traffic Committee recommended the installation of
pedestrian warning signs at Village Square and Ferndale Shopping Centers. The Town
Administrator will review the recommendation with Highway and the Police Department.
5. Correspondence - Valerie Allen request for Stop Sign - Rockland Avenue &Woody
Lane. The Traffic Committee reviewed the request for the stop sign and determined that
the location does not qualify for a sign.
