HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982_03_10 Town Board Special Minutes MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN BOARD OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK, HELD ON THE 10TH DAY OF MARCH 1982 IN THE. COUNCIL ROOM OF THE WEAVER STREET FIREHOUSE, TOWN OF MAMARONECK. III Present were the following: Councilman Lee H. Bloom Councilman Stewart J. McMillan Councilman Thomas R. Amlicke Councilwoman Caroline Silverstone Supervisor Leo- Goldsmith, Jr. was not present at this meeting due to illness. Town Clerk, Dorothy S. Miller was also in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 8:15 P.M. by Councilman Bloom who noted the meeting was being held pursuant to notice and stated that the purpose was to give consideration to appointing a Deputy Supervisor to act in the absence of the Supervisor who is presently ill. Councilman Bloom stated that the position was created in 1974 while Christine Helwig was Supervisor and was held for that year by Joseph Vandernoot, but further noted that the position has remained vacant in recent years. Councilman III Bloom went on to say that various important documents now need to be signed. Thereupon, on motion by Councilman McMillan, seconded by Councilman Amlicke, the following resolution was adopted by majority vote with Councilman Bloom abstaining from the vote: RESOLVED, that due to the illness of Supervisor Leo Goldsmith, Jr. and his inability to act at the present time, this Board hereby authorizes that Council- man Lee H. Bloom, Senior Town Councilman, be and he hereby is appointed Deputy Supervisor of the Town of Mamaroneck, to discharge any necessary duties and sign any required documents; and it is further RESOLVED, that as Deputy Supervisor, Councilman Bloom is hereby further authorized to designate any other Board member to perform any duty delegated to the Supervisor as provided for in Section 42 of the Town Law; III and it is further RESOLVED, that this appointment of Deputy Supervisor will be effective immediately and is to be carried out without any additional compensation to Councilman Bloom and will continue at the pleasure of the • Board until no longer so designated. -1- 01 Suzanne Carpenter, President of the Larchmont League of Women Voters asked Mr. Bloom how he will manage these extra duties with his business commitments. Councilman Bloom answered that following his discussion with Mrs. Goldsmith about the Supervisor's present condition, he had every reason to believe Mr. Goldsmith is on the road to recovery and that with the help of each member of the Board, the business affairs of the Town will be properly carried on until the Supervisor's return. Thereafter, following the administration of the oath of office to Mr. Bloom by the Town Clerk, on motion duly made and seconded, the meeting was declared adjourned at 8:27 P.M.
