HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955_04_18 Planning Board Minutes MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN OF MAMARONECK PLANNING BOARD,
HELD APRIL 18, 1955, AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS, 11 EDGEWOOD AVENUE,
TOWN OF MAMARONECK.
The Chairman called the meeting to order at 8 P. M.
PRESENT: Mr. Sullschleger, Chairman
Colonel Shea
Mr. Rigano
Mr. Maggini
Mr. Schuler
Mr. Burke
ABSENT: Mr. Blair
Presence was also noted of Mrs. Barnes, Secretary to the Board.
This meeting had been called for the purpose of interviewing several
architects who had been invited to appear and discuss with the Board,
the matter of a study or survey to be made on the subject of a new
Town Hall for the Town, which subject had been referred to the Planning
Board by the Town Board, on January 10, 1955.
The following architects had been invited to appear:
Messrs. Eggers & Higgins, 100 East 42nd Street, New York City
Messrs. McCoy & Blair, 4 Chatsworth Avenue, Larchmont, N. Y.
Mr. Charles Litchfield, 292 Madison Avenue, New York City
Mr. Albert Wilson, 617 Brook Street, Mamaroneck, N. Y.
Mr. Eggers, Jr. , appeared for Eggers and Higgins; Mr. McCoy appeared
for McCoy and Blair; and Mr. Wilson appeared.
The Secretary reported that Mr. Litchfield had telephoned her stating
that he did not feel it advisable for his firm to be one of those
considered for the planning of a new Town Hall, as his wife was
just recently made a member of the Planning Board of the Village of
Mamaroneck.
Also considered, together with the appearances of the above, was a
letter, dated April 15, 1955, from Edelbaum and Webster, architects,
addressed to the Supervisor and referred to this Board.
Colonel Shea, who had been appointed a Committee of one to investigate
it, reported to the Board on the matter of the Zoning Ordinance of
the Town, which had also been referred to this Board on January 10, 1955.
He said he believes that the proposal to revamp or study the Town
Ordinance might have been stimulated by the fact that the Village of
Larchmont had recently adopted a new Ordinance. However, the cases
are not parallel, there being substantial differences between the
requirements in the Village of Larchmont and the Town of Mamaroneck.
Colonel Shea believes that the Town's Ordinance in its present form
appears to be generally satisfactory and a complete review does not
warrant the necessary expense.

Therefore, on motion by Colonel Shea, seconded by Mr. Burke, it was
unanimously
RESOLVED that this Board hereby recommends to
the Town Board that the Zoning Ordinance of the
Unincorporated Part of the Town of Mamaroneck
and amendments thereto, including the map,
be reprinted.
The Secretary was also instructed to write the following letter to
the Town Board:
Town Board of the Town of Mamaroneck April 18, 1955
Gentlemen:
In accordance with our request of last year when this
Board was created, we again ask for an Official Map
and a Land Use Map. These were included in our
Budget but were taken out as we were informed that
there was sufficient help in the Town Office to com-
plete this work.
We would appreciate the provision of these maps at
an early date as we find the lack of them very in-
convenient.
Very truly yours,
Town of Mamaroneck Planning Board
The Board next considered the subject for which this meeting had
been called, and after lengthy discussion and careful consideration,
it was decided to recommend to the Town Board that the firm of Eggers
and Higgins, 100 E. 42nd Street, New York City, be employed to make
a survey, study, and report to the Town Board on the proposed new
Town Hall to be located in the Unincorporated Area of the Town, and
the Secretary was instructed to so notify the Town Board.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, it
adjourned at 10 P. M.
