HomeMy WebLinkAbout1923_08_15 Town Board Minutes Meeting of the Town Board TOWN OF MAMARONECK held August 15th, 1923. The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Burton at 11.05 P.M. PRESENT: Supervisor Burton Justice Boyd, Collins, Dudley, Shafer Town Clerk Sherman Counsellor Gamble. On motion duly seconded it was VOTED that the reading of the minutes of previous meetings be dispensed with. The Receiver of Taxes submitted his report for the month of July 1923, which was ordered received, spread upon the minutes and is as follows: August 1st, 1923. Harry T. McGivney Receiver of Taxes. To Geo. W. Burton, Supervisor Town of Mamaroneck, N.Y. The report of the Police Department for the month of July 1923, was received and read, showing thirty-nine arrests and fines amounting to $475.00. Same was ordered noted in the minutes and placed on file. A communication from the Weaver Street Fire Company was re- ceived, inviting the Town Board to attend the Company's opening and house-warming ceremonies at the new Fire House on Saturday, August 18th, 1923. Same was ordered received and the Board voted to be present at said ceremonies. The Clerk was rec!;uested to acknowledge receipt of the communication. A communication was received from Messrs. Eggers and Mink, architects, in relation to making application to the Westchester Lighting Company for gas connection in the new Fire House. the matter was referred to the Town Clerk to take up with the architects. The matter of issuance of special constable's permit to Mr. Delaney of thw Winged Foot Golf Club, was taken up by the Board, and referred to the Police Comiaissioners, and it was VOTED that upon the recommendation and approval of the Police Commissioners that the necessary certificate for said appointment be issued. The officers of the Weaver Street Fire Company appeared before the Board and discussed several matters in relation to the Fire House, among other recommendations being the purchase of a Gamewell Fire Alarm System to be installed in the new fire house to be used in connection with the present whistle. Upon the recommendation of the officers, and after con- siderable discussion upon the subject, upon motion duly seconded it was unanimously RESOLVED that the new Fire House Committee of the Town Board be and they hereby are author- ized and empowered to have installed in the new Fire House a Gamewell Fire Alarm System to be used in conjunction with the present whistle now in use. The officers of the Company also stated that pictures had been presented to the Fire House by Mrs. Paul Barr Kayser of Weaver Street, and on motion, duly seconded, it was RESOLVED that the pictures presented by Mrs. Paul Barr Kayser be accepted by the Town Board and that a letter of thanks be sent to Mrs. Kayser for her kindness. The Company stated that there were quite some purchases to be made for the building and the officers were instructed to send their requisitions to the Town Clerk, who was authorized to purchase same. The Clerk presented, several bills for purchases made in connection with the Fire House, and upon motion duly seconded, it was VOTED that the expenditures for same be and hereby are approved and that the same be a charge upon the Fire, Light and Water District. Supervisor Burton reported that in order to obtain more room for the Town officers, Mr. Fish one of the assessors had requested that the two enclosures be demolished in the main room, and that a bench be installed for the assessment rolls for the convenience of the Board of Assessors. Mr. Burton estimated the cost of the changes indi- cated would be about $100., and requested that said amount be appro- priated in order that the expenditures incurred therefor may be de- frayed. Upon motion by Justice Shafer, seconded by Justice Boyd, the following resolution was adopted: RESOLVED that there be levied and assessed against the taxable property situated int he Town of Mama- roneck and collected, the sum of ONE HUNDRED ($100.) DOLLARS to be applied in payment of the expenditures incurred in connection with the alterations made in the Town offices, and be it further RESOLVED that such changes be and the same hereby are approved.
