APPROVAL OF MINUTES The Minutes of June 12, 2001 were unanimously approved as corrected. ACTING SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE 1. A letter from Sidney Ings, President of the Larchmont Junior Soccer League to Supervisor Valerie O'Keeffe regarding the use of the Carpino-Steffens Fields was discussed. Ms. Fisher distributed packets of related correspondence and information. Commissioner Conlan asked if there was any way that the Town could accommodate this request. Ms. Fisher responded no. It would not be possible and keep the maintenance schedule. Last year the maintenance schedule was not kept and it resulted in poor field conditions and many complaints, including one from the former President of the Larchmont Junior Soccer League. Commissioner Plansky expressed concern regarding the public relations aspect of not allowing a group of residents to use the fields. Commissioner Conlan explained that the Commission's responsibility is to all Town residents whoes taxes paid for the renovation of these fields. 2. Ms. Fisher requested permission for the Hommocks Playground Camp to use the Carpino-Steffens Fields on Wednesdays. The Commission approved this request, since the Fields are not used on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer, which will be designated as days of rest. 3. Ms. Fisher reported that Mike Ryan is due to start the maintenance program on August 24th . 4. Summer Concerts at Memorial Park will begin on Monday, July 16`h. Ms. Fisher hopes Commission members will be able to attend. 5. As a follow-up to a request at last month's meeting, regarding area ice rinks that have showers, Ms. Fisher reported that Playland, New Roc City, Ice Hutch and Westchester Skating Academy all have showers. 6. The Commission unanimously approved a request by Rich Becker (of Mamaroneck Schools) to use the Carpino-Steffens Fields for a pre-season soccer clinic. SUPERVISOR VALERIE O'KEEFFE At this point Supervisor Valerie O'Keeffe joined the meeting to discuss with the Commission Mr. Ings' letter. The Commission reiterated their position that the recommended rest for the fields be adhered to after the annual maintenance. Commissioner Conlan explained to Supervisor O'Keeffe that the fields were opened 8 days after the completion of the maintenance program last year for the High School Jamboree. Both the School District and the Larchmont Junior Soccer League complained about the poor field conditions that followed as a direct result to the early opening. Supervisor O'Keeffe then inquired as to what could be done in the future years. The Commission discussed the possibility of having one week of Soccer Camp next year, but is mindful that the field maintenance cannot begin too early, due to growing parameters. Commissioner Castellani suggested that the Westchester Day School be approached for Sunday use. Supervisor O'Keeffe thanked the Commission and will respond to Mr. Ings' letter. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
