Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, April 17, 2001
The regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission was held on
April 17, 2001 in Conference Room A of the Mamaroneck Town Center, 740 West Boston Post
Road, Mamaroneck, New York at 7:30 P.M.

Commissioner Druker called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M.
APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES
The minutes from March 13, 2001 were approved, as corrected, unanimously on a motion by
Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa.
Ms. Fisher introduced James Rilley, who spoke on behalf of a small group of community
residents who would like to start a Community Theatre in the Town of Mamaroneck. They are
seeking Commission support for insurance, rehearsal space, publicity, etc. Mr. Altieri suggested
he speak with Sarah Tate of the Board of Education, to see if the Board would co-sponsor by
providing a facility. Mr. Rilley will do this and get back to the Commission.
ACTING SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE
1. Commission reviewed Harrison Recreation Department's request to join the Mamaroneck
Swim Club again this summer. This request was approved unanimously.
2. Carpino-Steffens Fields opened on Monday, April 16th - fields have been seeded,
fertilized and aerated. Seedlings have begun coming up. It was suggested that the
Commission might consider closing fields in fall to rest. The fields will also remain
closed on Wednesdays for maintenance and rest.
A chain has been attached to each gate which gets locked at the end of the day by the on-
duty Rink Manager. Commissioner Paonessa requested that garbage cans outside the
Carpino-Steffens gates be emptied as often as possible.
3. Resurfacing of Memorial Park and Central School Tennis Courts are scheduled for May.
Central is scheduled for May 2nd & 3rd, Memorial Park on May 21' 22nd 23rd & 24`h
Programs to be relocated during these days.
Commissioner Druker inquired as to the wide difference in price of the three bids. Mr.
Altieri explained it is common to have such a discrepancy.
4. Ms. Fisher, on behalf of Bill Blanchard of the Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association,
requested that the $150.00 non resident fee be waived for children of School District
employees. The Commission rejected this request.
PROGRAM UPDATE:
1. Memorial Park opened on April 1st
2. Brochures were mailed last week. Commission approved its new look.
3. Registration is underway. So far 60 children are registered for the Monroe lottery.
Lottery will be held on April 25`h. All Pre-School applicants will be accommodated.
4. The Town sponsored 3 Life Guarding Today classes this season. Hopefully it will help
meet the need for summer lifeguards.
Commissioner Paonessa inquired about alternate arrangements for the expected pool
closing. Ms. Fisher responded that the Department is trying to secure another facility.
5. Spring Warm-Up Swim Clinic begins on April 19`h. The Coach will be Adam King
assisted by John Henry Archer.
6. Kristin Rainaldi has been secured as the Summer Coach of the Mamaroneck Swim Club.
Ms. Rainaldi is looking forward to a long relationship with the Town.
7. The Icebreaker Hockey Tournament is set for this weekend. 8 teams have registered at
$1,200. per team.
8. Registration for Series 6 of Skating School will be held next week. Skating School
revenue is on target.
9. The Annual Ice Skating Show will be held on May l lth at 6:00 P.M.
10. Public Skating Sessions in May and June will be on Fridays and Sundays only.
11. Various Tennis programs will begin the week of April 30`h
12. The Men's Spring Hockey League has been cancelled. Oonly 2 teams showed interest.
The Ice Hutch is sponsoring a Men's Spring Hockey League, which Town residents may
join. Ms. Fisher reported to the Commission that Ice Hutch has contracted for
approximately $6,000 worth of ice time currently at Hommocks to run this program. Rob
Lunde, Rink Manager, will try to rent the rest of remaining available ice time.
Commissioner Druker suggested that the Town approach New Roc City and Ice Hutch
about having revolving hockey leagues. League would be conducted by a different
facility each year.
Commission Druker expressed concern that the wear and tear on the compressors may
not be worth the revenue received for the Spring season.
Mr. Altieri would like the Commission to review the Rink in general—revenue is down.
Rink Manager, Rob Lunde will be asked to attend the May Commission meeting.
DEVELOPMENT
1. No concerts have been booked yet for the summer. Ms. Fisher reviewed the neighboring
communities schedule of concerts, as well as the county's and inquired about the
Commission's preference for type of music, day of week, etc. Commissioner Dufficy
suggested maybe one or two to start this year.
2. Request for Proposals to repave under bridges at Memorial Park has been sent out.
3. Memorial Park Playground Phase 2 is proceeding —last set of drawings is due soon and
will need to be approved before May Commission meeting. Ms. Fisher will mail
drawings for Commission verbal approval.
4. Irrigation extensions on the Carpino-Steffens Fields were installed on March 26`h
5. Ms. Fisher suggested that after May 2nd the Commission check the Town Web Page @
www.townofmamaroneck.org then click onto the Recreation site. The full brochure is on the
web. The web page should be a good tool for advertising, especially special events.
6. The Town Highway Department helped to clean up the fence area along the Hommocks
Park Ice Rink entranceway.
7. Commissioner Druker asked why there was no dollar amount for the pool on the
Department's Annual Participation Report. Ms. Fisher explained that it would be
difficult to find out since so much money was refunded. Mr. Altieri said that Carmine
DeLuca, Town Comptroller, had kept a special account and he would be able to find out
there.
8. Sandee Bennett, Director of the South East Consortium for Special Services has
requested about one half hour time at the May Commission Meeting to discuss
mainstreaming of children into Town camps. Commission agreed and will start meeting
at 7:00 P.M. and invite Ms. Bennett at 7:45 P.M.. Ms. Toni Ann Guagliano of the Town
Recreation Department will also be asked to attend.

There being no further business to come before the Recreation Commission, the meeting was
adjourned at 8:40 P.M. on a motion by Commission Druker, seconded by Commissioner
Dufficy.
