SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED:
10. Rob Lunde and his staff have been busy preparing the Rink for the upcoming
season to date the following has been completed:

• New benches for the lobby are being purchased.
11. The late summer maintenance to the Carpino-Steffens Fields was not completed
on schedule due to the inclement weather. Rain on August 25th 28th and 29th
delayed this work. LandTek was able to come back and perform the
maintenance on Thursday, August 31st after the fields dried out. This will delay
the field opening date by a few days. The user groups have been notified.
12. The Preliminary Budget will be presented at the October Commission meeting.
There may be a need to reschedule the meeting to a different day of the week
due to member conflicts. Ms. Fisher will notify the Commission as to the date of
this meeting.
13. POOL UPDATE:
There have been several complaints from seniors regarding the ladders at the
pool. Seniors have a difficult time getting out of the pool.
The cleanliness of the women's locker room in particular was a major problem.
A meeting was held between Ms. Fisher, Town Administrator Stephen Altieri and
School Officials who stated that they are committed to the community to make
the situation right.
The Town would like to have a ladder that will make it easier for seniors and
anyone with disabilities to access the facility (even if the Town has to pay for it.)
Baby changing stations are also needed in the locker rooms.
Ms. Fisher stated that the pool is used by many camps during the summer and
resident swimmers are complaining about the lack of space for them. One
salutation would be to install a spray pool.
Commissioner Plansky asked if it was possible for a municipality to do a
fundraising for such a facility. Ms. Fisher will investigate this possibility.
REQUEST FOR THE USE OF THE CARPINO-STEFFENS FIELD:
A request from the Hommocks School to use the perimeter of the Carpino-Steffens
Fields during lunch periods has been received. This is the same space that was used
by the school during the 2004-2005 school year. The school will be using this space
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and will reinstall the riot fence.
The Commission unanimously decided to allow the Hommocks School access to the
perimeter of the fields.
POOL LOCKER ROOM POLICY:
A letter has been received from Supervisor Valerie O'Keeffe requesting the Recreation
Commission review "The Policy of Children Taken by Caregivers of Opposite Gender to
the Locker Rooms at Hommocks Pool".
Current policy states "Please us gender specific locker rooms with school aged
children".

POOL LOCKER ROOM POLICY CONTINUED:
Ms. Fisher informed the Commission that the original plans for the renovation to the
Hommocks Pool called for a "family changing room" which would have solved this
problem.
The Commission will be happy to review this policy and make changes if needed after
Ms. Fisher investigates how other municipalities deal with this type of situation.
OUT OF AREA NON-RESIDENT SCHOOL YEAR POOL PERMITS:
Ms. Fisher has proposed issuing a limited number of School Year Only Passes to the
Hommocks Pool to out of area residents. These pass will be valid until June 15, 2007
and would be reviewed next year. Normal rules and regulations would apply, there
would be no access to aquatic programs (unless specifically noted) and there would be
no pro-rated permits.
Commissioner Devaney suggested adding 10% to the current Rye Neck fee and
rounding off to the nearest dollar.
Before the Commission adopts this policy, Ms. Fisher will ask Mr. Altieri to review it with
the Town Board.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by
Commissioner Morello, seconded by Commissioner Plansky the meeting adjourned at
8:45 P.M.
