One of the concerns parents have is with the Wednesday afternoon practice, which conflicts
with religious instruction for many participants.

include:

strengthening exercises. Additional 30 minutes of chalkboard on Saturdays after

REQUEST BY THE VILLAGE OF LARCHMONT:
Ms. Fisher has received an email from Joyce Callahan, Recreation Director for the Village of
Larchmont requesting that Village residents be allowed to use the tennis courts at Memorial
Park while the courts in Flint Park are being repaired.
On a motion by Commissioner Morello, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the
Commission unanimously decided to allow Village of Larchmont residents to use the tennis
courts at Memorial Park while the tennis courts at Flint Park are being repaired. The courts
will be available to Village players on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 3:00
P.M. and a discounted fee of$5.00 per adult and $3.00 per child will be charged.
NOT ON THE AGENDA:
Ms. Fisher read from a letter that Supervisor O'Keeffe has received from Village of Larchmont
Mayor, Liz Feld. In the letter Mayor Feld informed the Town that repairs to the two bridges at
the Larchmont Reservoir are scheduled to be addressed this summer. This construction will
have a direct impact on the pre school camp held at that facility.
The Commission is extremely concerned about the proposed plan by the Village of
Larchmont to have scheduled construction during its' summer camp season at the Monroe
facility, where 100 children will be participating.
The Commission unanimously resolved to request that Town Supervisor, Valerie Moore
O'Keeffe, and the Town Council petition the Federal Emergency Management Agency to
grant an extension to the Village of Larchmont, so that the needed repairs to the bridges at
the Larchmont Reservoir can be delayed until after the camp season ends on August 13,
2009.
Commissioner Rita Plansky has also offered to contact the Village Board to express these
concerns.
REQUEST FOR USE OF THE CARPINO-STEFFENS FIELDS:
A request has been received from NOGA to hold a soccer clinic at the Carpino-Steffens
Fields.
Since it is Town policy not to allow a private organization to gain a profit from any municipal
facilities, the Commission unanimously decided to deny this request.
SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE:
Ms. Fisher reported the following:
1. Summer program registration is ongoing. Current registration numbers are as
follows:
Hommocks Playground Camp - 286
Central Pre School Camp - 84
Monroe Pre School Camp - 100

SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE CONTINUED:
Extended Day - 54
Teen Escape - 14
Swim Lessons - 83
Tennis Camp - 105
Competitive Swim Team - 57
Golf Lessons/Camp - 19/13
The Monroe lottery was held on April 29th and had 127 children entered. Of the 27
on the wait list, 22 have chosen to attend Camp Central.
2. There are 98 participants enrolled in Session VI of Skating School. Last year there
were 137 registered. This session concludes the Skating School season with
classes ending on June 14th
3. Spring Life Guarding class is fully enrolled with 16.
4. The Cartooning Workshop has 15 children enrolled.
5. Pool permit renewals are being mailed out to all previous permit holders the week
of May 11 to
6. Spring aquatic programs are now underway with the following enrollment numbers:
Bubble Babies - 20
Seahorse - 9
Spring Warm Up - 49
7. The American Red Cross Babysitters Training course began on May 4th with a full
registration of 13.
8. Hommocks Park Ice Rink will close on June 14th
9. The outdoor pools and lawn area are in the process of being prepared for the
summer season. The lawn has been aerated, seeded and fertilized. Saturday,
June 20th is our opening day for the summer. However, if the weather
cooperates, we plan on opening the lawn area up and the main doors for patrons
to be able to sit outside.
10. The lawn at Memorial Park was re-seeded the week of April 20th and is currently
closed. The Highway Department expects it to remain closed for approximately
one month.
11. Capitol One Bank of Larchmont has committed to sponsoring the outdoor movie
again this year. They will underwrite this cost of$2,500.
12. As of May 1st, the Memorial Park Tennis Court attendant is on duty seven days a
week. There did not seem to be any adverse effect of not having an attendant on
duty the weekends in April. Memorial Park tennis revenue is actually $200 higher
than last year at this same time. Approximately $900 was saved by eliminating the
attendants on weekends in August.
13. The Town Board at their April 15th meeting approved hiring Architect Richard
Ward of Ward Associates to conduct the new feasibility study at the Hommocks
Park Ice Rink. Mr. Ward and his team are eager to get started while there is still
ice and the equipment is operating.
14. Ms. Fisher and Stephen Altieri met with Meryl Rubenstein, Assistant Superintendent
Operations and George McNally, Director of Facilities to discuss the operation of the
Hommocks Pool and the annual invoices that have not been paid. The Town is
seeking clarification and financial backup for the annual pool invoices.
Ms. Rubenstein and Mr. McNally have agreed to look into this matter.
The School District is in agreement that the 1969 pool agreement between the
District and Town should be reviewed and possibly updated.
Since it is not mandated by the Health Department, it appears that the annual
draining of the pool (which has been creating a 3 to 4 week closure every spring)
may be eliminated. The pool would only then be closed for one week during spring
break and one week after Labor Day.
Every approximate 4 years they will completely drain and fill the pool.
15. Assurances have been received from the Town Administrator and Town
Comptroller that the Recreation Department will be taking credit cards for mail-in
registrations this fall.

was incident free and the ice rental totaled $6,750.
17. The re-opening of the Hommocks Pool was delayed an additional week. It was
scheduled to have re-opened on Saturday, April 25th, however it was postponed
until May 2nd. Early Morning Swim and recreational swimmers lost an additional
week.
