HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009_03_10 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION Meeting Minutes March 10, 2009 PRESENT: James Druker, Chairman Maura Devaney Robert Morello William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Mary Ellen Faulkner, Commission Secretary EXCUSED: Amy Siskind Ernie Odierna, Town Board Liaison CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Chairman Druker. ACCEPTANCE OF MEETING MINUTES: On a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the Meeting Minutes of February 10, 2009 were unanimously approved as submitted. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE: Ms. Fisher reported the following: 1. The spring/summer department brochure was delivered to residents as scheduled during the week of February 23rd Central School has been confirmed as the site of the neighborhood pre school program. 2. There are two sessions of Skating School remaining this season. 3. Tennis permit renewal applications will be mailed out to all previous permit holders the week of March 16th. Memorial Park Tennis Courts are scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, April 1st. However, due to budget issues the park attendant will not be on duty until Friday, May 1st. 4. The Youth House League Hockey Program concludes on March 13th. Spring Hockey begins on March 21st 5. The Annual Ice Skating Show will be held on Thursday, May 14th at the rink beginning at 6:00 P.M. 6. Hommocks Park Ice Rink general admissions for the month of February were lower than last year's. 7. LandTek is scheduled to aerate, fertilize and over-seed the Carpino-Steffens Fields on March 16th, weather permitting. User groups will be kept up to date on the progress of this work and the anticipated opening date. 8. The basement rooms at the Monroe facility have been repaired as requested by the Recreation Commission. The exterior walls were waterproofed and the interior walls have been either coated and/or sheet-rocked depending on the original type of building material. The walls are to be painted and new cork boards will be installed. If funds are available the floors will be re-tiled. A new phone system (similar to the one that was recently installed in the Town Center) will shortly be installed at the rink. It is hoped that the Manager will have use of a cordless phone and the ability to make announcements through the P.A system using the new phone. 10. The new mail-in program registration will go into effect when registration begins on March 30th 11. The Hommocks Pool is scheduled to close on April 4th and re-open on April 19th However, the School District has advised the Town that the pool may be closed until April 26th to complete the mandatory change over of their pool drain covers. Notices will be posted at the pool and on the Town website. 12. The Mamaroneck High School Varsity hockey team hosted two play-off games at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink netting the Town $2,100 in admissions. The protective netting was installed by February 22nd in time to host the M.H.S. playoff game held on February 25th 13. Ms. Fisher, Rob Lunde and Steve Altieri met with architect Richard Ward of Ward Associates to tour and discuss the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. Mr. Ward is very interested in submitting a proposal to conduct a new study of the rink. This proposal must specifically explain items such as how they will incorporate any sub-contractors work into the proposal and thorough credentials with experience related to ice rinks. Mr. Ward has done many projects for the Town including the outdoor pool project and renovations to the Carpino-Steffens Fields. 14. The Town is in the process of updating the Town website. The Recreation brochure receives the most hits on the site. 15. Pat Ferraro has been hired to cut the grass at the Carpino-Steffens Fields and the pool lawn area. 16. John Thompson will be holding his hockey tournament and has agreed to pay the $300.00 ice rental fee set by the Commission at the February 10, 2009 meeting. LETTER OF REQUEST FROM MS. AGNES TOUNKARA: Ms. Agnes Tounkara, Extension Program Director for the French-American School of New York has requested the use of the Hommocks Pool as part of their summer camp program. Chairman Druker inquired if a Commissioner would like to make a motion to approve this request. There was no motion made. The request was denied. REFUND REQUEST FROM MS. JANET LEWIS: Ms. Janet Lewis has made a request for a refund for the individual pool pass she purchased in January. Due to economic reasons she has been forced to move from the area. Due to the circumstances of her request, on a motion by Commissioner Paonessa, seconded by Commissioner Morello, the Commission approved a refund for Ms. Lewis's season individual pool pass less 10%. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa, the meeting adjourned at 7:55 P.M.
