HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002_04_09 Recreation Commission Minutes TOWN OF MAMARONECK RECREATION COMMISSION Meeting Minutes April 9, 2002 The regular meeting of the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Commission was held on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 in Conference Room "A" of the Mamaroneck Town Center, 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, New York at 7:30 P.M. PRESENT: Richard Conlan, Chairman Patricia Castellani James Druker Rosemary Dufficy William Paonessa Rita Plansky Terry Rainaldi ALSO PRESENT: Jill Fisher, Superintendent of Recreation Ernie Odierna, Town Board Liaison Mary Ellen Faulkner, Secretary CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Chairman Conlan. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Commissioner Rainaldi, seconded by Commissioner Plansky, the minutes of March 12, 2002 were unanimously approved as submitted. SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE 1. Ms. Fisher informed the Commission that the drawings for the improvements to the scorer box and player benches at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink have been approved and the work will begin when the rink closes in June. 2. Ms. Fisher presented a request from the Harrison Recreation Department to allow their residents to join the Mamaroneck Swim Club this summer. On a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Rainaldi this motion was passed unanimously. 3. The Recreation Department has received a check from First Union National Bank in the amount of$2,200.00 as a donation for the Summer Concerts at Memorial Park. This donation will be used for the first concert, T.J. Tomlin Swing Band to be held on Monday, July 8`h 4. 48 children are registered for the new Spring Youth Hockey League. Revenue for this program is $5,380.00. 5. The lawn at Memorial Park has been top dressed and re-seeded and will be closed until mid May. 6. Hommocks Pool reopening has been delayed until May Pt. All spring programs are on hold until the Department receives official notice from the Board of Education regarding a firm reopening date. 7. Carpino-Steffens Fields reopened as scheduled on April 2°d 8. Ms. Fisher circulated a color photograph of the piece of playground equipment that will be installed at the Monroe facility. She is now soliciting price quotes for installation. It will take 5 weeks to order the equipment. The Town Highway Department will be involved removing the old piece of equipment. All work should be completed by July 1S` 9. The Department is currently researching ideas to improve the walkway at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink such as installing a new gate and new lights at the entranceway . This work should be completed by opening day in the Fall. 10. Ms. Fisher informed the Commission that the Town has sent a canvas letter to the five candidates on the Civil Service list for Senior Recreation Leader. Ms. Mary Stanton, Assistant to the Town Administrator and she will be conducting interviews in the next several weeks. Volunteers from the Commission will be needed for the final interview. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Commission, on a motion by Commissioner Druker, seconded by Commissioner Paonessa the meeting adjourned at 8:04 P.M. to celebrate Commissioner Druker's birthday.
